No matter what you feel, you’re mine

Matthew

Violet, I’m so sorry. Please don’t be angry at Matthew and me. If you are, don’t take it out on him. Take it out on me instead,Nora said as she wrapped her arms around Violet.

I watched Violet’s face carefully. Her arms hung stiff at her sides. A slight shiver ran through her, one I recognized all too well. She only did that when something disgusted her. It was like her skin couldn’t stand the contact.

She lifted her gaze slowly and met mine.

The warmth in her gaze was gone, the kind that used to make me feel like I was the only person in the room. Now, her eyes were cold and distant. It wasn’t anger anymore. She looked at me like I was just another stranger in a crowded room.

People started whispering around us.

Damn, is that Matthew Sinclair?

Yeah, it is. Omg, he looks even better than in the pictures.

But what’s he doing here? Didn’t they break up?

Break up?

I clenched my jaw. My hands curled into fists at my sides.

Is that what she’s been telling people? That we’re broken up? Like she could just walk away from me that easily?

What the hell was she thinking?

When I came home and saw she was gone. Her things were packed. I was furious. Nora told me everything that happened, but I still couldn’t believe she felt like she had to leave. I called her, over and over, but she never picked up. Not one reply to my texts. She didn’t come back to the penthouse. And now she was here, acting like I didn’t even exist?

Nora finally stepped back. Violet, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you really that angry at us? I already apologized. Can’t you just forget what happened that night?

She glanced at me, then back at Violet. Matthew didn’t mean to save me, his protective instincts just kicked in. We’re close, you know that. He’s even here to make it up to you. Do you know how busy he is? He came all this way for you, and you’re just standing there.

Violet still didn’t say anything. She ignored her completely. I was about to speak when another voice piped up.

Yeah, Violet.Riley walked beside Nora, a smile stretching across her face.

Why are you being so difficult?she said sweetly. Can’t you see how hard this has been for everyone? You’re dragging this out. You’re being dramatic about something so small. Don’t you know Nora has a heart condition? This kind of emotional stress could really affect her. Do you really want to be responsible for making her condition worse?

The hallway buzzed again.

She’s so cold

Wow, she really is mean.

Poor Nora, she is just trying to be nice.

I ran a hand through my hair, my head spinning, completely exhausted. This wasn’t how I wanted things to go. I didn’t come here to cause a scene or make her look like the villain in front of everyone. I came because I wanted her back. My secretary had said she was probably acting this way because she needed affection, that if I just showed her I cared, gave her attention, and apologized, shed stop being so dramatic and come home

Violet wasn’t like other women. She never cared about the money, she made it clear she was with me because she loved me. That was one of the reasons I loved her. From the moment we met as kids, she was warm, kind, and completely out of reach for someone like me. Her parents used to donate to the orphanage I lived in. She and her brothers would come along during visits, that’s how we met.

I fell for her back then. And years later, when we crossed paths again, I fell all over again. But lately, especially last night, she’d been different.

Get out of my way.Violet calmly said. Nora and Riley didn’t move. Nora reached out, gently taking Violet’s hand. Violet, pplease listen. I-

Violet yanked her hand back like Nora’s touch burned. Her eyes narrowed. You might have all the time in the world for your performance, but I’m genuinely really busy. have other things to do.

Performance?

Nora pulled Violet’s hand again, looking like she was about to cry. Why are you treating me this way, Violet? Pleasedon’t be jealous. Matthew and my relationship is not like that.

Something in my chest warmed. Even after all this, Nora was still trying to help us.

In the blink of an eye, Violet pulled her hand back with force and shoved past them both. Nora stumbled back, gasping. Riley rushed forward to steady her.

What the hell are you doing? Do you want to injure her?she snapped at Violet.

Violet didn’t even turn around. She just kept walking.
