Finnian Fairchild was entirely consumed by his longing. Every instinct in his body screamed for Sienna Quigley, and he wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and never let go.
Terrified by his sudden intensity, Sienna panicked, afraid he might hurt the baby. She shoved hard against his chest. "Finnian, let me go!"
As she struggled against him, Finnian finally noticed something different about her body.
She had been wearing an oversized hoodie that completely masked her figure. Now, pressed tightly against him, he could clearly feel the distinct, firm curve of her swelling belly.
Finnian froze, instinctively releasing his grip.
Sienna immediately scrambled out of his embrace, glaring at him with heavy caution.
Finnian's gaze dropped to her stomach. His pupils dilated as if a bomb had just gone off in his mind.
"You're... pregnant?"
Sienna protectively wrapped her arms around her abdomen. "That's none of your business."
"Who is the father?" The words were ground out through gritted teeth.
Sienna snapped back without hesitation. "It's not yours, that's for sure!"
Finnian's knuckles turned white.
If she could fall in love with another man after Jared Quinn, why couldn't she choose him?
He was the one who looked the most like Jared!
If she wanted a child, why didn't she come to him?
A suffocating wave of despair washed over him, making it impossible to maintain his composed facade.
He pressed his lips together, his voice tight. "So... where is the baby's father?"
"Dead," Sienna replied flatly.
Finnian blinked, his face remaining perfectly blank, but inside, absolute fireworks were going off.
Dead?
Best news ever!
Absolutely brilliant!
He had never loved the word "dead" more in his entire life.
He pressed his lips tightly together, fighting the overwhelming urge to smile. "Evangeline asked me to pick you up and take you to Skystone Manor. Let's go. Get in the car."
Sienna eyed him with deep suspicion.
A moment ago, he looked ready to swallow her whole. How did he suddenly regain his absolute composure?
She didn't dwell on it. She just wanted to get out of this mess. Nodding, she reached for her suitcase, but Finnian had already stepped forward and smoothly grabbed the handle.
As he bent down, he was incredibly close to her.
Close enough to catch the familiar, intoxicating scent of her perfume...
Unbidden, highly inappropriate images flashed through his mind.
Finnian swallowed hard, forcing himself to breathe shallowly. He turned around with a stoic expression and dragged the suitcase toward the parking lot.
