and he’s go that smile that says trust me at your own risk.
But then again, this day was already shitty. Can it get worse than that? So I nodded and asked. There’s a coffer dog se blocks down, meet you there?”
It’s better that I choose a location far from Valerie and her minions‘ reach. I don’t want them taking pictures of Cole and me and making more gossip about me.

Chapter III
“What?” He asked.
“You’re a snob,” I said frankly, and he just shrugged his shoulders.
“Girls like that are trouble,” he said meaningfully.
“What do you mean?” I asked with a frown.

“I walked in with a woman. I am sitting at a table with a woman, and she’s still doing what she’s doing. She doesn’t respect herself, and that’s worse than me disrespecting her.”
I wrapped my head around his reply because it’s not just meaningful but also valid. “Maybe she thinks I’m your little sister?” I offered.
Nah,” he said. “This isn’t my first time in this cafe. Enough of her, and let’s talk about what you need, hm?”
paused, my brain trying to catch up to this conversation. What I need? What does he mean? Does he know about my father and his ultimatum?
What is it that you wanted to talk about?” Cole elaborated.
‘Oh… that,” I gushed, taking a sip of my coffee because my mind was not in this conversation, and it’s really embarrassing. I acked my brain on how to put my said need into words that won’t make me sound so desperate. Questions will be thrown at me if I’m not careful. “You own a club in the city, right?”
‘Uh–huh,” Cole said. “What about it?”
A long sigh escaped from me. This is now or never.
‘If I tell you, can you promise not to tell Beckett?” I glanced over at him, trying to read through his calm facade.
‘Do you need me to kill someone?” he asked so seriously that I could only gape at him. His attention was all on me, as if reading something deeper through my words.
‘Kill? W–what?” I stuttered.
‘No?” he said. “Then that’s a yes.”
“That’s not a nice joke, Cole,” I wiggled in my seat and sat up taller, his words leaving marks in my head. The thought of killing my father crossed my mind. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t, but I didn’t actually think of making that happen. I’m not a
killer.
“Who says it’s a joke?” he matched my shocked tone with a firm one.
I shook my head, shaking that dark idea out of my head. “Can you give me a gig at your club? I can wait tables, clean toilets, or even assist your bartender. I can even help in the kitchen.”
He tilted his head to the side, studying me. “You know Beckett will be mad if he learns about this.”
“That’s why you can’t say a word to him,” I explained as our plate of pasta arrived. The break gave me a moment to choose my words carefully. “I just need the extra cash, Cole. Please help me out?” I used my puppy eyes to win him over,
I don’t think it’s working, though. He’s just staring at me like I was speaking another language. It seemed like he wanted to say something more, but instead, he nodded and pulled out a calling card. “Call that number and tell them my name. They’ll know what to do.”
“Thanks,” I picked up the calling card and slid it into my bag.
