Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 39

-Andi-

Siobhan’s condo was the complete opposite of everything I expected.

Warm lights illuminated the place. Soft carpets covered the floor. Neutral colors fill the walls. A minimalist vibe that somehow still felt cozy instead of cold. A real bachelorette home.

The living room overlooked the city skyline. Windows stretched from floor to ceiling, letting the night lights spill in like glitter.

My jaw dropped. Wow.” That view is why this building is among the most expensive places to live in this city.

She snorted. Pretty, right?

I nodded. It’s stunning,” I gasped.

Siobhan tossed her heels onto a plush rug, grabbed two bottles of water, and waved me toward the couch.

Clothes are in the drawer in the guest room, she said. Pick anything you like. It’s all oversized. You’ll be comfy

I nodded and slipped away, grateful for the escape. The guest room was just as soft and warm as the rest of the place. I grabbed a loose shirt and a pair of silky shorts, then changed quickly. The clothes practically swallowed mebut they felt like a hug, and right now, I needed that.

When I returned, Siobhan was on the sofa, legs curled under her, eyes bright with girltalk readiness. She wore a white plus robe, tied at the waist with a ribbon. There’s a plate of fruit and wine waiting on the glass table before her.

You didn’t have to,” I murmured as I sat down beside her. The couch was facing the floortoceiling window. This is probably the best way to end this horrible night.

I needed this as well,Siobhan said, pouring wine into two glasses, handing one to me.

So,she announced, how are you feeling?

I sipped the wine. It burned as it spiralled down my throat, warming my body up. Confused. I think that’s the best way to put it.

I can’t imagine how you feel after witnessing and doing everything you did in one day,she agreed.

She was there the entire day, from breakfast to the birthday celebration. The best part of this day was dressing up and getting ready with Siobhan and Lila. That was something I would keep, and everything else should go down the drain of my

memory.

Do you

wanna talk about it?Siobhan pried.

I shook my head no. Did everything really happen? The auction and Cole and Beckett?

My mind was still hazy from everything that had transpired. I want this to be just a crazy dream, and later, I will wake up to the blare of my alarm.

It did, babe,Siobhan said, plucking a chunk of apple from the fruit bowl. And you were the star of that auction

I groaned and buried my face in a pillow. I didn’t want to be,

Siobhan sighed, and that’s what made you so interesting. When you walked up onto that stage, you looked so innocent and beautiful. Like a damsel that needed saving.

You don’t mean that.I stared at her with pleading eyes, wishing for her to lie to me instead. But friends don’t lie, right?

But I do,she said.

I mean….I paused, Look at me.I say with an incredulous laugh. Siobhan made it sound like I was someone else, surely n the Andi who walked into her office two weeks ago for a job interview.

I do, Andi, she said softly, fondness coasting her eyes. I saw you from the day you applied for that job, and now Beckett sees that too, and Cole and everyone at the party.

I blinked at her, my chest growing tight. Siobhan was the kind of person who would call anyone on their bullshit, and I kno she wouldn’t lie to my face about something like this.

My shoulders fell as I sank into my spot on the couch. I don’t know how to deal with my boss tomorrow after this. He just spent a fortune on a date with me.”

And anyone in that place was a fool not to bid on a date with you, Andi,Siobhan sighed, sinking into her spot as well. You’re very special, you know that.

I’m not.

Yes, you are,she insisted. Of everyone in the courtyard, you were the only one who didn’t have an ulterior motive in coming to Nana Lucy’s birthday.

Her words caught me off guard and left me confused. It didn’t sound like something someone would say just to make me feel good. There was a story behind her statement, something dark.

She glanced at me; the soft overhead light bounced on her skin. Don’t ever change, hm?

It’s funny,I said, Nana Lucy said the same thing to me earlier.

Something far away crossed her face, as though she were remembering a memory. Sloane had been trying her best to weave her way into the Maldini family, and she will be your worst enemy, so be careful with her.

I blinked at her. Wait, what? Why would I need to be careful? I’m not trying to be part of my boss’s family. That’s not why I’m at that party-

I know, Andi,Siobhan murmured, giggling at me. But trust me, Nana Lucy doesn’t just bring someone to meet her. Everyone at that party, if not politicians or businessmen, waited a year to meet Nana Lucy. She’s not just your ordinary filthyrich lady. So you know, meeting her in person is a huge deal.

I swallowed hard; the weight of Siobhan’s words is taking its toll on my shoulder. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that everyone at that party was not just anybody, but Siobhan made it sound as if Nana Lucy was like royalty in the world of rich people.

Do you know how many times Sloane had tried and failed to see Nana Lucy this year? She gave a humorless laugh, shaking her head dismissively. More than the fingers on my hands and feet can count. She wants to win over Nana Lucy’s approval.

Uhm, why? Sloane belongs to high society. She’s a good match for the Maldini family.”

Siobhan shook her head. Nana Lucy is careful with the people she allows inside the family, and Sloane is bad news. That girl is shady as shit, so be careful when you deal with her, okay?

I nodded. I took a mental note to avoid crossing paths with Sloane again. Okay. And Cole?

Interest grew in her eyes. Cole?

Yes, Cole. What about him? Should I be careful with him as well?Cole was interesting, sure, but something told me this isn’t the last time I’m going to see him. From what I saw, Cole and Beckett’s lives are tangled in ways no one could explain. That auction was only the tip of the iceberg in terms of how competitive they are, especially against each other,

Siobhan looked thoughtful Cole is not a danger to you. In the Maldini family, Nana Lucy is the law, and if she says Cole will protect you, he will.

This was enlightening. The Maldini family sounded like a family in a dark romance movie. Full of mystery and surrounded by danger.

And what about you?I asked, a soft smile on my lips.

Me?Siobhan quirked her eyebrows, confused as to what I was asking about. Are you asking me if you should be careful around me?

I shook my head no and grinned at her. No. I know you don’t want to harm me, all I want to know is, are we really friends?

Her eyelashes fluttered as she stared at me, a grin stretching her lips. What kind of question is that, Andi. Much like Nana Lucy, I don’t bring anyone into my home, not even my favorite models at the agency.

My grin was Cheshire. Really? Then, can I ask you a few things?

She giggled because I sounded like a child about to ask her mom for a birthday present. What?

Why do they call you Bonnie? It’s a cute nickname; it reminds me of Elena Gilbert’s best friend, Bonnie Bennett, from The Vampire Diaries.

A willful look blanketed her face as she gazed into the distance, where the stars and the city lights meet together. It’s because of Cole and Beckett, she said, it’s really embarrassing. Mainly, everyone at the Maldini clan calls me Bonnie.

Oh…I murmured. I’m not part of the Maldini clan, so I will keep calling her Siobhan. And what about that boyfriend? Who is he?

Siobhan’s expression faltered. It’s like I opened Pandora’s box and she immediately closed it back. She forced a smile, a cue that I shouldn’t push the topic. We’re not on good terms right now,she said. Somehow, I don’t believe what she just said. It felt something deeper, something more. But then she drank the last of her wine and rose to her feet. I’m a bit tired, Andi, you?

OhI’ll stay here a little longer. It’s not every day I see this kind of view,I let out a little sigh as I glanced at the magnificent view from her place. I mean, if that’s okay.

No problem,” she smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. Good night.

Good night,” I said as I watched her disappear into her room, hoping that I didn’t completely ruin her mood with my question.
