Chapter 49
-Beckett-
Calling Siobhan Bonnie meant business. She kept reminding Cole and me never to call her Bosna bat we of comes out whenever I’m annoyed with her. I use it a lot more than Cole because I’m in brass bobum wer have to deal with something personal
“I know you know where she is, I insisted. Tell me. Now”
I could hear her breathing fire on the other end of the line. Siobhan never liked being told what to do thug he her own business after the graduated from business school. She never wanted to work for her farber vom pan b wouldn’t have it her way there. She’s one little stubborn princess.
She inhaled deeply, calming herself, and then greeted me in a very cheerful tone that only sobdited my way that she knew where Andi was. “Morning, Becky. What can I do for you?”
My insides boiled. No one dares call me Becky but Siobhan. It’s how you know she’s really close to me “in heat me Where is Andi?”
“Where’s Andi?” she repeated, mimicking my deep baritone with a tone intended to annoy me. She was doing a great job! was already frustrated that Andi left, and now she ran toward the one person who isn’t rattled easily by my voice alone “What do you mean?”
I snorted, clenching my phone tightly. “Don’t play dumb. You know what I mean.”
Silence. Then I heard the mockery in her tone. “I don’t know where she is. You were on a date with her last night, and last I remember, she was a stay–in housekeeper at your estate. So why are you asking me?”
This woman never makes me feel the urge to pull my hair from the roots. Why can’t she just be nice to me fit
“Bonnie, Please. I need to speak with her, so if she’s there, just tell her that, okay?”
I had this inkling that Andi was sitting right in front of Siobhan, and my so–called childhood friend was a gang me a hard time. Maybe Andi already told her what happened last night, and Siobhan was hell–bent on making the work to wor Andi. I can’t blame her. I was an asshole to Andi, and if I were in Siobhan’s shoes, I would do the same far y frend
“Uhhh, why would she be sitting in front of me, Beckett?” she said with the best innocent tone she could muster. She was really doing a great job of annoying me–and being a good friend to Andi
“Ugh, Bonnie… for fuck’s sake!” I groaned and pinched the bridge of my nose. If I can’t make her tak by asking micef I force. With the calmest tone I could muster, I reminded her. “Do you remember that one tire at the canteen when you were in third grade, Bonnie? When you confessed your love to my friend Albe
I could hear the panic setting in on the other end of the line. Now I finally had her undivided atterson, ‘t destroyed all evidence of that day. You can’t use that to blackmail me.”
“You destroyed Cole’s evidence, not mine,” I bluffed. I don’t really have evidence of that incident, but the change in ber voice told me I was close to breaking her silence.
“You… no…” she stuttered. “You’re bluffing.”
“I’m not, Bonnie,” I grinned an evil grin. Gotcha. “I have it in my room at the mansion. That place has been touched I went to college–you know that.”
She groaned, and I heard rustling on her side. I was right. Andi was with her

“I know every embarrassing thing you did before you turned twelve. Bonnie, 1 added. “All I’m asking is for you to tell Andi ! want to talk to her, and your secret stays safe.”
“Alright, alright!” she hissed, cursing under her breath. “But if she says no, it’s a no, Berkett. Got in?”
I hummed a yes. Then she must have covered the mouthpiece of her phone, because I heard muted voices out her end
“She doesn’t want to talk to you, Beckett.” Her tone was flat–the kind that says she’s not bullsharing me
I anticipated this when I read Andi’s letter, but I wasn’t giving up that easily. “Just tell her fim sorry, okay! It w
Siobhan sighed. She didn’t bother covering her phone now. “He says he’s sorry,” she said, but I heard new response fr Andi.
“She needs space, Beck,” she exhaled, defeated. “She’s safe, and as for her salary–I’ll make sure it’s in your f end of the day.”
“What?!” I hissed. “This isn’t about the money, Bonnie! When the fuck did I give a shit about money I want to prepare wa Andi properly, and I want her back here at my place.”
“You can’t force someone to work for you. Besides, isn’t this what you wanted? For her to resign?” Siobhan reminded me and the memories of how badly I treated Andi made my stomach cave.
“That was then,” I explained. “I… I had a change of heart. I want her to stay.” And I meant it. I really want her to stay with me
I knew Andi was listening to this conversation, and I really hoped she would find it in her heart to speak to me. I just waned to explain what had happened.
What am I going to tell her? I still have to work that out. First, I need to see her.
“Just… give her space for now, okay,” Siobhan warned. “You already did enough.”
I hung up without answering, because I already knew where she was.
“What do you mean she’s not accepting visitors?” I frowned at the security guard at Siobhan’s building That woman she knew I’d be coming to see Andi, and she made a move to ward me off
“Yes, sir, as of an hour ago,” the guy in a white long–sleeve uniform informed me. Recognition Bashed on his face whole saw me walk in the door, and when I asked the lobby receptionist about Siobhan’s unit, she called this guy ot
If this were a different situation, I would’ve laughed. Siobhan knew me all too well, and she had planned this. She had always been smarter when it came to people.
I couldn’t make a scene, People would recognize me, so I swallowed my discontent and walkest out of the building
Like a stalker, I sat in my car and waited. I was like an idiot with too much money and uo patience, watching the sites like
I my life depended on it.
An hour later, the woman I’d been waiting for finally walked out of the building–Siobhan was on her trail My chest tightened painfully at the sight of Andi.
She was back in her usual style, Jeans torn, shirt faded, hair pulled back like she hadn’t bothered trying to hide froin the world. She looked exhausted but still devastatingly beautiful
I paused… What? When did she become beautiful in my eyes? 2/3

The fear and uncertainty on her face cut deeper than I expected. I don’t want her to look at me like that I want lore See lure eistiness, and her irritation. I missed the fire in those big blue eyes, the way she’d always looked at me like the way to defend herself from the coming war.
stepped out of the car. The guards watched but didn’t interfere. I was off their property now
Beckett,” Siobhan stepped in front of Andi, shielding her. “I told you to give her space.”
Somehow, this was going in my favor. Siobhan couldn’t shoo me away like a dog with her bark because there were people round us. A scene would be bad for both our image.
I just want to talk to Andi, Bonnie,” I snapped, then reached for Andi’s hand and closed my fingers around
‘Let’s talk, and I won’t take no for an answer,” I said, already pulling her away from Siobhan
And I knew, with absolute clarity, that nothing about my life was ever going to be simple again
