-Andi-
The frown that formed on Beckett’s forehead told me he mirrors this sense of worry because of Siobhan’s call.
014
He answered the phone and put it on loudspeaker. A gesture of trust between us. He didn’t even ask Siobhan if what she was about to say involved me.
Siobhan’s voice crackled through Beckett’s phone like static before a storm. I was waiting for the lights to flicker and the terrifying score to echo in the mansion.
I stayed perched on the barstool, knees drawn in slightly, and hands resting on top of the island. My fingers laced together so tightly my knuckles ached. Beckett stood across from me, arms crossed. He was too calm, too composed for what I felt unraveling inside me.
“Bonnie,” he greeted Siobhan.
“Beck, Siobhan answered. “Is Andi with you?”
“Yes, she’s here,” Beckett said.
“Hi, I butted in, my voice meek and tense.
Hi.” Siobhan’s voice was a sigh. “Did something happen?” She didn’t beat around the bush.
What do you mean?” Beckett didn’t jump to conclusions when we both knew something really happened earlier. My scratches are still fresh, and my scalp is still tender from Sloane’s ambush.
“Sloane,” Siobhan paused and let that name sink in. The brewing storm in the line was stirring towards our way. It’s gathering strength, ready to pounce.
I hate that my assumption was right. This was about Sloane and her threat of suing me. My worry grew bigger. It made my thest tight, pushing all the air out of my body.
Did she see you?” Siobhan continued.
“Yes,” Beckett’s lips pressed into a hard line. “She attacked Andi, and Andi fought back.” There was that ghost of a smirk on nis lips again, and the light tone in his voice as he continued made me smile too. “You should have seen her.”
Siobhan sighed, then let out a soft laugh. It wasn’t gleeful, but she seemed relieved. “Thank God Andi kicked her ass. I knew you got it in you, girl.”
I snorted. “Is she suing me?” There was no use in tiptoeing around this topic Better discuss it before Sloane makes another
move.
“She talked to her lawyer,” Siobhan explained.
That was quick. Sloane’s trail on the mansion was still fresh. She must’ve called her lawyer, and the real question is, how did Siobhan know about this already?
“I’m friends with her lawyer,” Siobhan added. “I didn’t know that would work in our favor
“She’s suing, Andi?” Beckett scoffed, his fist clenching as the space between his eyebrows creased.
“She wanted to. But from what she told Kendra, she doesn’t make a good case, Siobhan revealed.

Chapter 78
Sandra might be Sloane’s lawyer, but her loyalty is to Siobhan. I wonder how deep their connection is when she’s ready to breach their attorney–client privilege.
“She didn’t listen,” Beckett grumbled. “Call Justin. Tell him to file a restraining order against Sloane.”
“What?” I gasped.
“Are you sure?” Siobhan said at the same time.
A pause. “I am.” Beckett said through gritted teeth.
“This will trigger Sloane, Beck,” Siobhan sounded like a big sister reminding her younger brother to think things over before making a decision.
Beckett’s jaw ticked as his determination hardened his voice. “I wanted her to leave Andi alone. She just won’t stop.”
“I’m fine,” I butted in. I appreciate all that he’s willing to do to protect me. He already did that earlier, and I know Siobhan wasn’t worried about simple matters. We don’t want Sloane’s anger to morph into a full–blown rage. “We don’t have to do this.” I said and shook my head.
“Like I said, I should have done this a long time ago,” Beckett insisted. I might have only known Beckett for a month, but I know that look. He has decided, and his decision is already firm. “Cole told me to put hidden cameras all over the estate. Good thing I listened to him. We have what Sloane did this morning on record.”
The water for the pasta Beckett is cooking rose to a boil. He turned around and poured oil and salt into the boiling water, allowing them to fuse.
“Oh…” I hummed, surprised that Cole thought three steps ahead of us. Those words should have comforted me. Instead, they settled like a weight on my chest.
Where else are those hidden cameras? Did they also put one on the pool house? I pressed a hand to my belly. Did Beckett know I spied on him and Cole when they were talking by the pool?
My stomach dropped, hollow and sharp all at once. It’s a good thing I was sitting, or I might stagger on my feet.
“I’ll handle it,” Siobhan chimed in. “I’ll update you once we have the restraining order. For now, we need to move the plan forward. We don’t want another mishap like this to happen.”
“What do you mean?” I frowned at Beckett’s phone as if Siobhan could see me.
“We can’t slack on this, Andi,” Siobhan explained. “I don’t want to hang over the what if, but if Sloane’s lawyer wasn’t loyal to Beckett, she wouldn’t even tell me about Sloane’s plans? I thought Carter was our only problem. I hadn’t even thought about Sloane
She was right. Sloane was an oversight, and Siobhan just wanted to make sure we were already on the move before something like this happened again.
“What are you suggesting?” Becken’s expression was somber. He looks like he was feeling the same way about this as 1 do.
“The photo we posted this morning was a success. People had stopped talking about Carter’s interview and noved on to this blooming romance in Becket’s life. We need to give them more,” she narrated. Tam booking you two a dummer tonight I’ll find a fancy restaurant where people will not crowd you, but they will see you
That alone made my pulse spike. They will see us, but they won’t crowd us? Does that place exist in Beckett’s world? I think he might just be sitting on a park bench, and people will still rabble over him.
“Are you okay with that?” Beckett turned his full attention to me after he tossed the pasta into the boiling water,

Chapter 78
“Huh? Me?” I snapped back into reality and looked at my fake boyfriend. “Yeah, yeah I’m good with whatever you think is best for us.”
Beckett looked unconvinced, but he had to make sure he didn’t overcook his pasta.
Silence stretched between us, thick and suffocating.
Sooner or later, we would go out in public anyway, but why does my heart pound in my chest? Once people see us at dinner. it will make this fake relationship a hundred percent official.
This is the hard launch Siobhan was talking about. We were moving it two weeks earlier.
“We don’t have to do this if you’re not ready, Beckett said. He was already tossing the pasta in the sauce. He made carbonara, and the buttery aroma filled the kitchen. This won’t work if you don’t feel safe
I squared my shoulder and leveled him with a stare.
I’ll do whatever you decide,” I said finally. “I trust you.”
That was the moment that scared me the most, because I really do trust Beckett. I am putting my life on the line here. Once we go out together, people will see me. They will mark me as Beckett Hale’s girlfriend, and there’s no turning back from that
anymore.
