Chapter 79

-Andi-

You look fine, Andi,Beckett murmured, breaking the suffocating silence inside the car.

35 vouchere

He’s so assertive that I couldn’t even hide how uncomfortable I am just thinking about this date. I know I agreed to this, but since we left the mansion, memories of how our last date ended filled my head.

Silence had permeated the car from the moment we left the estate. Beckett had switched the music on, and we’d been listening to blues for about an hour now.

We’ve reached the city, at least the edges of the bustling metro. I haven’t even asked Beckett where we were going. There was a lot on my mind to even bother to ask what Siobhan had planned for us, but this road was too familiar. If I’m not mistaken. we are headed to the seaside, where we had our dreadful date the last time.

Included in the clothes Siobhan and Lila had brought for me after the hospital was a black halter dress that hangs to the middle of my thighs. There were colorful dresses in my pool house closet now, but this color suited my mood. I pulled my hair up into a neat ponytail and dabbed light makeup on my face so I wouldn’t look like a zombie. After pairing this dress with my wornout sneakers, I really don’t think I looked fine.

I popped two pain pills just to case the discomfort on my left side. Once the adrenaline from Sloane’s attack wore off, every part of my body felt sore.

You don’t have to lie,I uttered, gaze glued on the road. I didn’t want to take another glance at Beckett. He looked rather ravishing in his bluegray buttondown shirt and khaki pants. His usual messy hair was combed back neatly, the same way he looked on our last date and only date.

I was right. Beckett had entered the seaside. I dreaded coming back to this place. The memory of our almost kiss in front of the ice cream parlor had ruined this for good. I wonder why he agreed to have dinner here.

I’m many things.Beckett said as he spotted an empty slot in the parking lot. He parked the car smoothly and killed the engine. But I am not a liar.

Really? I bet Siobhan and Lila would disagree with that.I said with a knowing smile, the tension in my shoulder loosening as our conversation flowed.

He thought for a moment. I haven’t lied to you,” he corrected. And it will stay that way, girlfriend,he grinned and slid out of the car, opening my door for me.

I placed my hand on his open palms and let him guide me out of his SUV. He was doing what a real boyfriend would do. and I must play my part.

Just curious,” I said as he locked the car. Why did you agree to dinner here?

Why not?he said and offered his arm to me. I hooked a hand around his toned one, feeling his hard muscle wrap around mine. My arms looked so small when I’m around him. This is our place, there was a pinch of tease in his response as he guided me through the walking path.

If we are about to be engaged, I would propose here too, you know,he tugged me to his side as one kid on a skateboard almost knocked me down again. This was how that date started to spiral, these freaking skateboarders and skaters. I need to make sure not to get bombarded by one again

Ha ha. That’s really funny, sarcasm laced my tone as we halted in front of a softly lit resto.

So this was what Siobhan had chosen. A restaurant on the seaside, quiet, upscale, strategically visible. Our table was set on

the secondlevel deck. The stars were twinkling above us and a single rose in a vase adored the center of the table

The people walking down the street had a good view of us. We will be seen, but people won’t crowd as I get it now We have an audience, but they were too far to swarm Beckett and me. They will be able to take photos and videos of us, though

We had placed our order, and Beckett poured us wine. I reached for my glass and chugged it down in one go

Beckett chuckled and moved his chair beside mine I stared at him, confused by his actions.

What are you doing?I asked because he just invaded my bubble. We were now facing the waters, the air warm agamist our skin. Beckett parked a hand behind my hair, his fingers brushing my bare shoulder.

You need to chill. Andi,he murmured, reached for his glass of wine, and took a sip

I’m chill,I shot back, refusing to admit that he can read me like a damn open book

You’re not,Beckett murmured and faced me. He was too close that I could now feel his breath brushing my skin. It’s just me. It’s just us. Don’t worry about anyone else

I sighed and sank back into my seat. I melted into Beckett’s arms and he just needed to pull me closer and we’d be hugging, like a freaking real couple. This was the part of this deal that I hadn’t thought carefully about My attraction to Beckett was growing exponentially the more we did things that only couples do

That’s easy for you to say. I pushed the wayward strands of my hair behind my ears. The wine that rolled down my system was starting to warm me from the inside. My cheeks were slowly burning, and a giddy feeling started to fill my belly.

I shouldn’t even be drinking wine. I am still drinking medication, but I needed the courage to get through this night.

You’re always surrounded by people who are watching your every move. I’m not used to these kinds of things,I admitted.

Having people watching you all the time is not always a good thing. Beckett said. It gets tiring, exhausting, so I learned to ignore them. You should, too, he offered. They will be watching your every move from now on.”

Because I’m your fake girlfriend,I added.

My girlfriend,he cleared. I froze when he coiled a finger beneath my chin and guided my face so I was looking into his eyes. Not fake.

My pulse pounded against my veins, my blood rushing to every part of my body in a surge. Beckett’s gaze was intent, searing and burning the walls I had surrounded my heart with.

Fake,I insisted, holding onto the last bit of my sanity. This is fake, Andi. He’s just doing this for a show. Don’t fall for it

Youhe mumbled as his thumb brushed against my lips and my bare shoulder. Does this feel fake to you?His gaze dropped onto my lips and back into my eyes. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed, and the flicker of need in his eyes was blinding.

Words left me, and my mind was stuck in a loop. I couldn’t think properly, because what I feel for him is far from fake, but didn’t we agree on this fake relationship? We wouldn’t even be here if not for that deal.

Why is he acting all weird all of a sudden? And what he said next puzzled me even more. This is real, Andrea. You and me. This is as real as it could get.
