Chapter 18 She Called Him an Idiot
“Jose, let’s just finish the ceremony. All the guests are watching.”
Right then, Jose’s parents came over to calm him down.
Finished
Margaret’s reputation was ruined. She had even run off with some unknown man. There was not way they would let someone like her marry their son.
“Fine.”
Jose finally looked away from Margaret. His voice was dull, like the engagement hadn’t lifted his spirits much.
Of course he wasn’t happy. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, pampered his whole life.
As an adult, his handsome looks made women chase after him. If he showed interest, famous celebrities and wealthy socialites would throw themselves into his bed.
So being treated like this by Margaret–called a narcissist, looked down on like he was dirt under her shoc–really put him in a bad mood.
No woman had ever dared to insult him like this. No one had ever made him this angry to his face.
If Margaret’s goal was to get his attention, she had definitely succeeded.
The engagement ceremony continued.
Margaret stayed seated right on the red carpet, looking at ease.
Everyone watched, feeling the whole situation was very strange.
Just as the ceremony was about to end, Margaret lazily blinked and said, “Wait. I’m the true heiress of the Tucker family. She’s just an adopted daughter with no real status. Who the right to take my place?”

The room erupted in whispers.
Margaret narrowed her eyes. A dangerous, playful smile appeared on her lips.
Anything Clara liked, anything Clara wanted–Margaret was determined to destroy it all.
Jose was about to put the engagement ring on Clara’s finger. But Margaret’s words made him. freeze. He turned and walked straight toward Margaret.

Pride showed in his eyes. He knew it–everything she said earlier was just to make him notice
her.
Watching Jose leave her without hesitation, Clara stood frozen as if struck by lightning. Her heart ached with a pain she had never felt before.
That country girl!
How dare she try to steal Jose from her!
Jose stopped in front of Margaret, looking down at her. His handsome face once again showed. the confidence and pride of the Miller family heir. “Margaret, I knew it. You were just trying to get my attention. So, you can’t stand to see me with someone else, can you?
“But you succeeded. You have
my attention now. If you want to be my fiancée, that might still be possible.” He stared at her stunning face. Her bold, fearless expression kept replaying in his mind.
“Jose!”
Clara’s face turned as pale as a sheet, her nails digging so deeply into her palms that they drew blood.
“Jose, what are you doing? A woman like her isn’t worthy of you. Making her your fiancée would be a stain on your life.” His parents‘ voices boomed with fury, shocked and enraged by his sudden change of heart.
Jose paid them no mind. Arrogance was in his blood–he’d never cared what anyone else thought.
Right now, he just wanted to see this proud girl kneel and beg.
He really wanted to see her look pleading and pathetic. That would be satisfying.
Looking down at her as if throwing coins to a beggar, he said, “But first, you need to kneel and apologize. Admit you were wrong, and I’ll agree to make you my fiancée.”
He stood even taller, his face full of pride, ready to accept Margaret’s kneeling.
He was sure she would jump at the chance. Kneel and become his woman? What woman wouldn’t drop to her knees right away?
But Margaret didn’t move. Still sitting in the chair, she didn’t even uncross her legs. She just looked at Jose like he was an idiot and said, her voice sweet but poisonous, “Huh? Are you a fool?”
