Chapter 28 An Ear for an Ear

Margaret’s eyes were cold and empty. The fruit knife in her hand gleamed under the light.

Beatrice was truly terrified now. All her earlier arrogance vanished. She threw herself on the floor, begging with a trembling voice.

“Ms. Tucker, I was wrong! My eyes were wide shut back then! Please don’t dirty your hands with me. Spare my life!

“Ms. Tucker, I’m sorry! Let me go, please! Everything I did-beating you, punishing you, starving you, making you sleep in the doghouse-it was all Mrs. Evan’s orders! None of it was my idea!”

She cried and sold out her

Complice without hesitation.

“Sorry?” Margaret’s laugh was icy, her eyes burning with fury. “I only accept apologies from the dead. Those are the only ones that count.”

She raised the fruit knife

Que foessly and pressed the blade against Beatrice’s ear.

A little more pressure, and the ear would be gone.

Feeling the cool steel, Beatrice shook violently, consumed by terror.

Margaret’s face remained calm, almost bored.

She tightened her grip slightly, ready to slice through in one clean motion.

But just as she moved, a sharp pain shot

Her hand froze.

agaps arough her held.

The original owner’s will stirred inside, protesting as if this was too cruel.

Margaret frowned slightly.

Too soft. In her previous life, she would have killed her on the spot.

Just taking an ear was already mercy.

After all, she wasn’t the Reaper here; she was the Tucker family’s eldest daughter. She couldn’t just kill someone in the open.

The original soul was gone, but its instincts and fragments of will remained in this body.

Being kind to an enemy was being cruel to yourself.

She had seen too many people hesitate and pay the price.

How evil could humans be? Margaret, who grew up among corpses, knew better than anyone.

That discomfort persisted, whispering that this punishment was too much…

Margaret’s smile turned mocking and sharp.

Margaret, your kindness-what did it ever get you?

She stood up suddenly, deliberately dropping the fruit nife next to Beatrice and releasing the invisible force that pinned her down.

She turned her back to Beatrice. “This knife is too dull. ll find a sharper one.”

The moment Margaret turned, Beatrice realized she could move again. Seeing Margaret’s exposed back, a vicious grin spread across her face.

Stupid. Completely brainless.

She was going to end this.

Beatrice grabbed the knife from the floor and charged at Margaret.

“Margaret, watch out!”

“Bumpkin, be careful!”

The servants panicked.

Even if Margaret wasn’t respected in the Tucker household, she was still the heiress. If she died here, none of them would escape blame.

They tried to rush forward and stop it, but it was too late. Beatrice was determined. The knife was moments from sinking into Margaret’s back.

Some of the more timid servants closed their eyes, bracing for the bloody scene.

“Trash! Go to hell!”

Blinded by rage, Beatrice thought only of killing Margaret.

But then-

Margaret, who seemed exposed, moved. As if she had eyes in the back of her head, she sidestepped smoothly, avoiding the stab.

At the same time, her hand chopped down hard on Beatrice’s forearm.

A sharp pain shot through Beatrice’s arm. Her grip loosened. Somehow, Margaret had already taken the knife from her.

It happened too fast. Beatrice couldn’t even process it.

Then, her vision blurred-

Smack!

Margaret’s palm struck Beatrice’s face, hard and merciless.

“Ah! It hurts! My ear!”

The next second, savage pain exploded. Beatrice clutched her ear and felt something wet-blood.

And on that side, she could hear nothing.

The servants stared, wide-eyed, shocked by the brutal scene. A few fainted on the spot.

Margaret, the one who did it, didn’t even blink.

Just one deaf ear. An eye for an eye. That was mercy.

She wasn’t Margaret-she was Reaper, who knew nothing of kindness or mercy.

At that moment, every servant looked at her with heavy fear in their eyes.

This girl in a black dress, face calm, a sinister smile touching her lips.

Like a maiden from hell-beautiful and terrifying.
