Chapter 140

Luna’s POV

નાના

I was starting to get seriously sick and tired of walking, i had followed Knox because was desperate enough to cling to possibility that he might actually be able to help me, but after what felt like forever of pushing through bushes, stepping over roots, and walking through endless trees, was beginning to think that whatever secret solution he had in mind was hidden on another continent entirely.

My legs were sore, my patience was running thin, and every few minutes I found myself opening my mouth to complain before forcing myself to stay quiet. Unfortunately, my self-control was reaching its limit. I was just about to ask him how much farther we still had to go when I suddenly heard something in the distance. At first, I thought it was simply the wind moving through the trees, but the sound grew louder with every step we took, and it sounded like resting water.

1 frowned slightly and listened harder. Since my hearing had become stronger, I could pick up details far more easily than before. The sound wasn’t gentle enough to belong to a stream, and it definitely wasn’t quiet enough to be a small pond or lake. The noise kept growing until it almost seemed to fill the entire forest around us. Immediately, curiosity replaced some of my irritation. I began looking around, trying to figure out where the sound was coming from, and the more we walked. the more obvious it became that whatever we were approaching was much larger than I originally thought.

Then the trees finally opened up, and the sight that greeted me was so beautiful that I stopped walking altogether.

Right in front of us was a waterfall, not a tiny waterfall that people took pictures of and exaggerated online, or a little stream trickling down some rocks. This was an actual waterfall. Water crashed down from high above with enough force to create a constant roar that echoed throughout the area. Mist floated through the air, catching the sunlight and making everything look almost magical. The water below sparkled as it rushed forward, surrounded by large rocks and thick greenery.

It felt hidden away from the rest of the world, like some secret place that only a handful of people knew existed. Withour even realizing it, a smile spread across my face.

“Wow,” I breathed. The word slipped out before I could stop it/”This place is beautiful.”

For a few moments I simply stood there taking everything in, looking at the waterfall, listening to the rushing water, and breathing in the fresh air. The place felt peaceful in a way nowhere else I have been to ever did.

denly I felt slightly embarrassed when I remembered how convinced I had been earlier that Knox was dragging me of se shady club or some underground gathering of delinquents. Looking at this place now, the idea seemed ridiculous. was the sanctuary he had been talking about, then I could absolutely understand why he called it that. Even Moon emed unusually quiet as she admired the place with me.

When I finally looked away from the waterfall and turned toward Knox, I noticed that he was watching me. He wasn smiling much, actually, he wasn’t showing much emotion, at all, but somehow I could tell he was pleased with my reaction. Almost proud.

Do you want to swim first?” he asked, his voice sounding casual. “Or sit around for a while?” He paused briefly. “Or would you rather get to the real reason I brought you here?”

The question immediately pulled me back to reality.

I blinked, then remembered exactly why I had followed him all the way into the middle of nowhere in the first place. The sinile on my face faded slightly as I turned back toward him.

“We can get to it,” I said,

Then I folded my arms across my chest. “But first I’d really like to know how bringing me into the woods to see a hidden waterfall is supposed to help me stop running like a lunatic.”

My eyes widened immediately. “What?”

I almost choked on the word, and then another horrifying thought entered my head. My gaze the top of the waterfall, then back toward Knox, and then upward again.

Surely not? Absolutely not. There was no way.

“Are you planning to make me jump off the waterfall?” I asked.

Knox actually looked offended, and then he scoffed. “Even better

“The first step of your mission,” Knox said calmly, “is successfully reaching the waterfall and standing under it without being carried away by the current.”

I continued staring, waiting for him to laugh, for him to admit he was joking, or for some sign that he had lost his mind, but unfortunately, he looked completely serious.

I shook my head even harder. “That’s insane. You can’t possibly expect me to do that”

“It’s not as bad as you think it is,” he responded.

“It absolutely is.”

Knox simply folded his arms, clearly unimpressed. Meanwhile, I was trying to decide whether I should be offended. horrified, or concerned about his mental stability.
