Chapter 70

Luna’s POV

By the time I got back to the room, my head was already starting to feel heavy agam, not in the same way it had earlier, but more like I was just tired of everything. Tired of thinking, tired of feeling things that didn’t feel like mine, tired of trying to make sense of a situation that made absolutely no sense no matter how I looked at it.

I pushed the door open slowly and stepped inside, and the moment I did, Ivy’s head snapped up from where she was sitting She had clearly finished eating already because the tray that had been brought earlier was pushed to the side, and the look on her face changed immediately the moment she saw me.

“Where the hell have you been?” she asked, her voice filled with both relief and irritation as she stood up from the bed. “You’ve been gone for over an hour, Luna. Your food is completely cold now.” She crossed her arms over her chest as she looked at me. clearly not happy about the situation, and I could tell she had been worried even if she was trying to hide it behind annoyance.

I let out a slow sigh as I closed the door behind me, leaning back against it for a moment before walking further into the room. “I was talking to Jace,” I said simply, my voice a little quieter than usual, I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the weight of everything that had happened settle on me again. “And then… something happened.” I paused for a brief second before adding, “But I’m back now, so it’s fine.”

I walked toward the bed slowly, my shoulders dropping slightly as I let out another breath. “Honestly,” I continued, “I just want this day to be over already.” And I meant it.

More than anything. I just wanted time to move faster so I could get through whatever this was supposed to be and maybe, just maybe, things would start to make sense again.

Ivy’s expression softened immediately at my words, the irritation fading as she looked at me with concern. She climbed off the bed and took a few steps toward me before tilting her head slightly. “Do you want a hug?” she asked, her voice gentler now, like she already knew the answer but still wanted to ask anyway.

On a normal day, I would have said no without even thinking about it. I wasn’t really the type to go around hugging people, not even a sweetheart like Ivy, and in the few weeks she has known me, she already knew that, but today wasn’t normal. Nothing about today had been normal, and for once, I didn’t feel like arguing about something as small as a hug.

“Just this once.” I said, giving a small shrug before stepping closer to her.

She didn’t waste a second. The moment I got close enough, she wrapped her arms around me tightly, pulling me into a hug that was way more clingy than I expected. I let out a small breath, my arms wrapping loosely around her in return, not nearly as tight but enough to return the gesture. For a few seconds, I just stayed there, letting myself relax a little, letting myself feel something that didn’t feel confusing or overwhelming.

Eventually, I pulled back slightly, trying to get her to let go, but of course, Ivy being Ivy, she held on for a second longer before finally releasing me. I stepped back, shaking my head lightly as I looked at her.

“So” she said, her curiosity already taking over again as she crossed her arms and looked at me expectantly, “what did you find out?” Her eyes narrowed slightly as she added, “You went to Jace to ask about the whole werewolf thing, right?”

I nodded slowly, moving to sit down on the bed as I let out another tired sigh. “Yeah, I did,” I said, leaning forward slightly as I rested my elbows on my knees, “But I didn’t really get as far as I wanted to.”

Ivy frowned a little, stepping closer as she looked at me. “What do you mean?”

I ran a hand down my face before looking up at her. “The same thing that happened with Theo happened again,” I said, my voice a little more serious now. “Except this time, it was worse

Her brows pulled together immediately. “Worse how?”

I hesitated for a second, trying to find the right way to explain it, even though I wasn’t sure there was a right way. “My wolt.” I started, pausing briefly before continuing. “It took over completely, and not just influencing me or making me feel things, but actually controlling my body”

Ivy’s eyes widened slightly as she listened, and I could tell she was trying to imagine what I was describing.

“I was aware of everything again.” I added quickly. “I could see what was happening, hear what I was saying, feel everything. but I couldn’t stop it. It was like I was just… stuck.” I let out a quiet breath, shaking my head slightly. “And apparently, my wolf doesn’t care about anything except… her mates.”

Ivy blinked, clearly trying to process that. “So… what did you do?” she asked carefully.

I let out a short, humorless laugh. “What didn’t I do?” I muttered before leaning back slightly on the bed. “I almost jumped Jace.”

Her eyes widened even more at that, and for a second, she just stared at me like she wasn’t sure if she heard me right.

“I’m serious,” I added quickly, raising a hand slightly. “It was bad, like… really bad.” I sighed again, rubbing my forehead lightly, “But thankfully, he was fast enough to get away from me.”

Ivy blinked again, still looking shocked. “He ran?”

“Pretty much.” I said with a small shrug. “He didn’t actually run, but he might as well have. He got out of there as fast as he could.”

“And then what?” she asked, still clearly trying to follow everything.

“And then.” I continued, “he locked me in his office.”

Ivy’s mouth opened slightly in surprise. “He locked you in?”

“Yeah,” I said, nodding once. “He literally locked me in and left me there until I calmed down and got back to my senses.” I let out a breath, shaking my head slightly. “And he only came back after I was normal again.”

Ivy stared at me for a few seconds before letting out a small, surprised laugh. “I cannot believe this,” she said, shaking her head. “Jace Callahan… running away from a girl.”

I rolled my eyes slightly at that, but I didn’t say anything as she continued.

“Do you know how crazy that sounds?” she added, still sounding amused. “From everything I’ve heard about him, he’s not the type to back down from anything, especially not a woman, and you’re telling me he ran from you?”

I shrugged lightly. “Well, he did.”

Ivy shook her head again, clearly still surprised. “That’s actually impressive,” she said after a moment. “From what I’ve read, mates usually can’t resist each other. It’s like… almost impossible. So the fact that he managed to do that…” She trailed off, clearly thinking about it.

I didn’t respond immediately, but I felt that same annoying pang in my chest again, the one I had been trying to ignore. I hated it. I hated how it came out of nowhere and made me feel things I didn’t want to feel.

“Well,” I said, my voice a little sharper than before, “he already has a girlfriend, so it makes sense.”

The moment I said it. Ivy’s head snapped toward me, her expression changing instantly. “Wait, what?” she asked, her tone filled with curiosity. “He has a girlfriend?”
