Chapter 82-

Chapter 83

Thirdperson POV

Jace did not sleep at all, not ever for a second. The night had felt like it was stretching on for much longer than it should have, and every minute had felt heavy, toe, and suffocating, After making wire that Luna had gotten bark to her room safely and that she did not need anything else om him, he had not gone to his bedroom He could not bring homself to Instead, he had gone straight to his office, closed the door behind him, and sat there in silence

At first, he had tried to think. He had tried to come up with a way to fix what had happened, or at least a way to explai that would not make things worse than they already were, but the more he thought about it, the more it became clear that there was nothing to fix. What had happened had already happened, and it was not something he could take back or pretend

did not exist.

So instead of thinking, he had ended up doing nothing

He sat on the chair, his elbows resting on his knees, his hands loosely clasped together as he stared ahead at nothing in particular. The room was quiet, too quiet, and the silence only made everything in his head louder. Every moment from the night replayed again and again whether he wanted it to or not. The shift, the loss of control. the way Ace had taken over without hesitation, and the way everything had unfolded after that.

He knew exactly what he had done.

That was the worst part. There was no confusion, no uncertainty. He had crossed a line that he had been the one to set in the first place. He had been the one to tell the others to stay in control, to not give in, to make sure that Luna was protected from their instincts until she could understand everything properly, and yet, when it mattered the most, he had been the first one to fail.

By the time the sky started to lighten outside, Jace had not moved from where he was. His body felt heavy, like it was weighed down by something he could not shake off. His head ached slightly from the lack of rest, and his eyes felt its but he did not try to sleep. He knew he would not be able to even if he tried.

When the morning finally came, he barely noticed it. The light that slipped through the window did not feel warm or comforting. It just made the room brighter, nothing more. He was still staring into the same empty space when the deer o his office suddenly burst open.

The sound was loud and unexpected, but Jace barely reacted. His mind was still somewhere far away and for a mooid be did not even register that someone had entered the room. It was only when something hit his face hard and suces his senses snapped back into place.

The sopact was strong enough to make his head jerk to the side and a sharp pain spread scross beeck amson axtarily For a second, everything went quiet again, like his brain needed time to catch up with what bad mist hapyesi

Jace felt the pain this time more clearly, the sharp sting spreading across his jaw and cheek, but even then, he did not mo to block it. Another punch followed, and another.

Orion’s breathing was heavy, his movements driven by something deeper than just anger. His golden eyes, visible even behind his glasses, burned with a kind of rage that was hard to ignore. He had not slept either, and it showed in the tensi in his body and the way his fists moved without hesitation.

Jace lay there on the floor, his head turning slightly with each hit, but he still did not fight back. He did not raise his hand protect himself, and he did not try to push Orion away, and that only marle Orion angrier.

The fact that Jace was not resisting, not even trying to defend himself, made it feel like he was admitting everything with aying a word. It made it clear that he knew exactly why this was happening, and that only fueled Orion’s rage even more

You think this is okay?Orion’s voice came out rough and sharp between punches. You think you can just do that and s quiet like nothing happened?

Another punch landed, and this time, blood started to show. Jace’s lip split slightly, and a thin line of blood ran down his hin, but he still said nothing, and that silence was like adding fuel to a fire.

Orion’s fists kept moving, each hit coming with the same force, the same anger, and the same lack of control. He had wall or this moment. He had spent the entire night counting the hours, waiting for a chance to face Jace without Luna around vithout anything stopping him from doing exactly what he was doing now, and now that he had that chance, he was not oing to stop easily.

I trusted you,Orion snapped, his voice rising slightly. We all did.”

Another punch.

You were the one who told us to stay in control.”

Another hit.

You were the one who said we shouldn’t cross that line.

Another.

And then you go ahead and do it first?

His voice grew louder with each word, his anger becoming harder to contain. Jace’s face was already starting to look worse blood spreading across his skin, his breathing heavier now, but he still did not tight back.

He took every hit without saying a word, and it was not because he could not defend himself, op becase he was weak or inable to stop Orion. It was because he knew Orion was sight. That was the truth, and he had no excuse that would make any of this better.

Just as Orion raised his fist again, ready to continue, the door was barged open again, and this time, it was Knox

He took in the scene in a single glance, and without wasting a second, he moved forward quickly. His steps were fast 4- he reached them, and before Orion could land another hit. Knox grabbed hum and pulled him back

Orion!Knox’s voice was sharp, cutting through the tension in the room. What the hell are you doing?

Orion struggled against his hold, his chest rising and falling quickly as he tried to break tree. His tisi was still clenched, now stained with Jace’s blood, and his eyes were still burning with anger.

Let go of me!Orion snapped, his voice filled with frustration

Orion let out a harsh laugh, the sound lacking any real humor Maybe I should,he said coldly. Do you even know what he

did?

Knox did not answer immediately. Instead, he looked at Orion calmly, his expression anreadable, and that calm reaction made something click in Orion’s mind. His brows pulled together slightly as he looked at Knox more closely, his anger shifting just a little into something else.
