(Author’s POV)
"Gotta go, babes. Have fun with your new professor and don’t forget to give me the tea. Hasta la vista," Yelena shot the two a flying kiss as they parted their ways. She went on to the Sports Department, which was just right ahead.
"Shall we, as well, sis?" Wendy signalled Myra as they too walked towards the Fine Arts Department. It was still at some considerable distance, so they needed to walk a bit further.
As they got closer and closer to the lecture hall, they heard murmuring and chattering all around them. Apparently, the place was buzzing about this guest professor. All the students were curious about their identity. Whether it was a male or a female. No one knew anything about it.
"Who do you guys think is coming for today’s guest lecture?" one boy asked.
"How would I know? It’s my first time here. But I hope it is someone handsome like Prof. Fabian," the girl exclaimed as she joined her hands, as if to pray.
The other boy scoffed and made a weird face, "We don’t even know whether it’s a male or a female professor, uhh. And, for your ’kind’ information, Prof. Stephens~ ... that guy is a prodigy. His level of genius, including the age factor, what do you think, how many people can achieve that sort of thing? Not everyone can give a lecture at Red Stone, you know. The person must be quite experienced, meaning they won’t fit into the age criteria. They would definitely be around forty five, maybe fifty, or it can be above as well. So, stop daydreaming, May." He tried to give the girl a reality check.
"Aye~ Hey~ ... you are no fun. Annoying," the girl rolled her eyes at her friend’s words.
The other person only laughed and said, "I only burst your imaginative bubble, sweetie. But don’t thank me for that. Anyway~ ...... whosoever it is, it better not be someone with a temper. Arts Professors~ ...they tend to be prickly and moody all the time. Prof. Gill is a rare exception."
Wendy took Myra towards the chattery group. Although she, as well as Myra, heard it all, she still asked, "What are you guys talking about?"
"WENDY! You are finally here. We have been waiting for you," the boy exclaimed in delight after seeing her. A coy smile flashed across his lips. He then added, "Nothing~ .... We were just talking about this mysterious guest professor’s identity." He noticed Myra, who was just behind Wendy and remarked, "This must be your elder sister."
Wendy recalled Myra and pulled her forward to introduce her to her friend’s, "Yeah, she is my sister, Myra Miracle. And sis~ .... This chatty guy right here~ .... he is Charlie Love. The one on his right, the curly headed one, is Andy. And~ .... You are~" She stretched her words when she saw an unfamiliar girl amongst her friends.
"Ohhh~ ...... This is my and Andy’s childhood friend, May Stokes. She is from the Political Science Department," Charlie introduced his friend to them. He then added, shifting his gaze back to Myra, "Myra~ can I call you that?"
Myra nodded in the affirmative. He then continued, "It’s so ... nice to finally meet you. Wendy is always talking about you." He chimed.
May extended her hand for a handshake towards Wendy and said, "Wendy, good to meet you." She was polite with her words but was formal as well. Wendy replied, "Likewise." She remained curt.
"Haha~ ... Why are you two talking so formally, huhh? We are all friends here," Andy commented.
May and Wendy nodded, but neither of them said anything. The one who was feeling the most awkward was Myra. They were all younger than her, and she wasn’t a very social person, unlike her sister or Yelena."
Out of the blue, Andy chuckled. Everyone looked at him with confused expressions. But Charlie was the one who voiced, "Why are you laughing all of a sudden?"
"It’s nothing~ ... I was just thinking~ ... how Wendy and Myra do not resemble each other at all. It’s fascinating. I have never seen such distinct features amongst siblings," Andy explained.
Wendy poked her inner cheek with her tongue and gave him a hard and cold look, and almost snapped back at him, "What do you mean by your words? She is~ .... my sister. Do we have to look the same to be called siblings? I have seen multiple siblings who don’t look anything alike."
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! .... Wends, what’s up with you? I was just curious. I am sorry if it offended you in any way," Andy apologized immediately.
Myra held Wendy’s hand and patted it lightly. She then turned towards Andy, Charlie and May and said, "Wendy didn’t mean it like that. Actually, I was adopted by mom and dad when Wendy was two years old." She said with a kind smile. There was not even a flicker of hesitation. She then continued, "We might not be siblings by blood. But we are siblings by bond. True bond."
All of a sudden, the atmosphere turned awkward as neither of them dared to utter a single word. After all, no one was expecting such a revelation to hear.
Myra broke the silence as she checked the time and said, "It is time for the lecture. I think we all should go."
"Yeah, Myra is right. We’d better hurry up, else all the seats will be taken," Charlie added as he urged everyone.
They all started walking towards the class. Andy was a little embarrassed, so he walked beside Wendy and whispered, "I am sorry. I was being a bit insensitive."
Wendy exhaled a sigh and replied, "Sorry, I overreacted too."
Wendy shrugged his hand off, "I am but~ ... forget it."
Professor Stephani Gill stepped onto the podium and started, "Good Morning, new and old faces. You guys seemed quite taken aback by my presence. Aren’t you happy to see me?" She asked, her voice teasing.
The arts students were all quick to say, "No ma’am. How can that be? We are so happy that we were left speechless."
Stephani chuckled at their buttering, "Hahaha~ ... I could hear it from the hallway, your speechlessness." She then clapped her hands together and continued, "I am here to introduce you to your guest professor."
Everyone got excited listening to her words. They all turned their heads towards the entrance in anticipation.
Meanwhile, Prof. Gill continued, "He is a very special guest. A renowned figure in the world of business."
"Business? A business person is going to give an arts lecture?" Andy commented. He then turned towards Myra, "Who do you think it can be?"
"Don’t know," Myra shook her head. Her head was lowered as she her mind was somewhere else.
Stephani Gill said, "Please welcome~ ..." before she could say the name, the person stepped inside. His steps were imposing as the sound echoed from them in a rhythmic tone.
The students gasped at the person, their eyes gleaming with surprise and delight. Everyone was shocked to see who the professor was.
"Ohhhh~ my gosh ... ohh my gosh~ ... sis. See who it is," Wendy smacked Myra’s arm unconsciously, looking at the guest.
Myra was picking up her pen that had fallen. Seeing Wendy react like that, she was in the middle of getting up, when the guest professor took the podium and started, "HELLO EVERYONE~ ...." Her eyes dilated at the familiar sound of the voice.
