(Author’s POV)
"By the way~ ... Did you reach out to Elio?" Dion inquired casually.
Wendy hesitated. She didn’t know what to answer on that. To be honest, she thought of contacting Elio several times, but each time she picked up her phone, her mind was clouded by various thoughts. What if she calls and he doesn’t remember her? Or what if she sends a text and he doesn’t reply? After all, they have only met twice, and their conversations were brief. Elio was a good person; there was no doubt in her mind about that.
But he was the youngest son of the elite Everests family, and countless people, male, female and others, must be dying to talk to him and get in his good books. She didn’t want to come off as a mere opportunist.
After not getting any answer from her, Dion glanced at Wendy and called out, "Ms. Miracle, everything okay? You seem rather dazed?"
Wendy was brought back to reality as she looked at Dion and shook her head, "I am fine, Prof. Everests." She then proceeded to answer his earlier question; her voice came out a pitch or two low, "Uhh~ ... I couldn’t reach out to him."
Dion’s brows wrinkled at her words, "Didn’t you exchange numbers? If you have lost it, I will give it to you."
"No~ ... I have it. It’s just that I thought he must be busy and I didn’t want to disturb him," Wendy said, her head lowered. But the obvious flush on her cheeks and her body language were making it easy for Dion to know what was on her mind.
"You should probably talk to him. He doesn’t have many friends and is mostly couped up in hospital to look after the patient. He will surely like it," Dion assured her, giving her his signature charming smile. He knew his brother was too dumb and rigid to make the first move. And if everything worked out fine between these two, it could create a perfect opportunity to get close to Myra without suspicion.
Getting the green signal, Wendy visibly relaxed as she said, "I will text him after my next class." The smile on her face said it all.
As they reached the temporary office Dion was occupying, he feigned remembrance as he asked, his voice dripping with raw concern, "Ohh~ .... One more thing~ ...... how is~ .... How is your elder sister doing? Is she feeling better now?"
Recalling what he was talking about, Wendy uttered, "My sister~ .... she is doing fine. It turned out to be just a normal cough and cold." Then, clapping her hands, she added,
"Ohh yeah, right. Yesterday, in your lecture, she was also there attending it. It was her first mixed class. Actually, she is doing post studies and her major is business finance." She explained.
"Really~ .... That’s good to know that she is alright. By the way, what was her name again?" Dion inquired nonchalantly.
"Her name is Myra~ ... Myra Miracle," Wendy beamed.
"Myra~ .... Nice name. She must be very academically gifted if she is majoring in business finance," he commented.
"Absolutely. She has always been the topper of her class. And is even the first person in Red Stone’s history to get a full scholarship, Wendy said, her tone filled with pride.
"Can I meet her?" Dion asked. He then further added, his face a mask of genuine professionalism, "I think she would be a great asset for our company. We are looking for talented individuals like her."
Wendy’s eyes brightened at his words. It was a golden opportunity everyone would latch onto. But she didn’t outright say yes; instead, she muttered, "I will have to ask her first." She knew how socially awkward Myra is, so she might not feel comfortable.
Dion didn’t utter anything for a few seconds, making Wendy nervous. After much thought, he said, "Very well. Please do ask her."
Wendy checked the time on her phone and said, "She must be having a break. I will go to her and ask." She seemed too excited.
As she was about to walk away, Dion said, "Ms. Wendy~ ...."
"Yes, Prof. Everests," she asked.
"Umm~ .... Can you not tell her that I am the one asking to meet. She might feel pressure if you tell her in advance," Dion explained.
Wendy found his words logical. She nodded in agreement, "Okay, I will not mention your name." And with that, she left Dion’s office.
The person hesitated as he gulped down in nervousness. He then added, "He sounded urgent."
"Tell him I am busy right now," Fabian said imposingly.
Alaric interrupted, "If you have something urgent to do, feel free to attend to that, Prof. Stephens. Ms. Miracle here can show me around the library."
"Definitely not," Fabian’s answer came out rather too quickly. Even his voice betrayed his usual calmness. Myra was taken aback by his sudden words as well. "Other things can wait. As you are our prestigious guest, it is my duty to show you around. It wouldn’t look good on us if only a student shows you around," He, by no fucking means, would leave Myra and this filthy wolf alone. Once was enough, but not again. Never again.
He then shifted his attention back to the person and said, his tone stern, "Give him my message."
They were about to resume what they were doing, but Myra interrupted, "Prof. Stephens, Mr. Everests is right. I can help him with his campus tour. You should probably take the call. It has to be something really urgent."
Myra didn’t want to burden him any longer. She could tell that Fabian was just trying to protect her from Alaric. But she has finally decided not to hide anymore. So, wanted to face this challenge head on and all alone.
Fabian was left speechless for a few seconds. His facial expression, one could tell that he was clearly heartbroken. It pained him, and he felt like Myra had chosen Alaric over him. In that moment, he felt like someone had poured a bucket full of bone chilling, icy water all over him.
With an aching voice, he uttered, "Then~ ... I will quickly take this call and join you." Saying this, he glanced at Myra and then glared sharply at Alaric, as if warning him to stay away from Myra.
Alaric was appalled by the sheer audacity of this weak human. He was trying to challenge him, the Alaric Everests here. The gall. If this weren’t the vampire clan’s territory, with his temperament, he would have ripped Fabian apart. That guy has been stepping out of his boundary again and again. He really needed to be taught a lesson.
Fabian walked away, but every now and then, he would look back to see Myra and Alaric walking side by side. The sight was an eyesore to him.
