(Fabian’s POV)
"WHAT???" I was utterly shocked to hear what has been going on at the campus during my absence.
Prof. Johnson had called me out of the blue. My first thought was that he wanted to know about my grandfather’s condition. After all, he, as well as Oswald Mitchell, was under the impression that I was off campus and attending to some business given to me by the Chairperson, "Jacob Larson" himself. Then, the crash incident happened, so he must be calling for that.
I picked up the call at once, "Hello, Prof. Johnson."
Just as I thought, Zachary spoke, "Hello, Prof. Stephens. How are things at your end? How is Chairman Larson doing now?"
"He is~ ...." I sighed, pinching my nose bridge, "He is getting treated. For now, his condition is under control." I repeated what Healer Hector’s assistant had told me.
"Good~ ... that’s good," he uttered, sounding relieved. "Ummmm~ .... Prof. Stephens~ .... did you~ .... did you, by chance, check the campus forum, in the past couple of days?"
I was confused by his random question. My brows came together as I answered, "No~ ... I did not. I have been quite busy here. Did something happen?"
"So~ .... Ms. Miracle didn’t tell you either~ ...." he said in a muffled tone, but I still heard it.
"What about My~ .... Ms. Miracle?" This made me all the more perplexed. I logged in at once and checked the forum page. It was under temporary maintenance.
"Prof. Stephens~ .... Prof. Stephens~ .... are you there?" Zachary’s voice echoed.
"Yes, I am. What were you saying about?" I inquired.
There was a brief period of silence. Then a sound of Zachary taking a deep sigh reverberated as he started, "Apparently~ ...." He gave me a detailed rundown on what had happened.
The more I listened to it, the more it made my blood boil. Saying that I was shocked would be an understatement. I was flabbergasted, aghast to know what Myra has been going through because of that piece of shit, Nigel Long. He had been rude to Myra from the very start. ’I should have removed him the first time he made a snarky comment on her. If only Myra hadn’t stopped me then.’ She wanted no fuss and drama. So, I respected her words. But it was a mistake on my part. I should have plucked him out way earlier.
Last night, she didn’t say anything about the post or those muddy comments Zachary had mentioned. Thinking about it made my heart ache.
Just when I think that she is opening up to me and the wall around her is melting, she, once again, starts fixing that damned wall.
"I thought~ .... you were the one who tipped off and sent those evidences. I guess I was wrong. But thanks to that person, Ms. Miracle’s name was cleared off instantly," Zachary sounded unburdened.
"Prof. Johnson, umm~ .... I am getting a call," I said.
"Ohh~ .... Sure. Go ahead," and with that, his call ended.
I was about to call Myra when a knock on my door interrupted me.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"Ummm~ .... Mr. Stephens~ ...." a soft, subtle voice came from the other side. I knew exactly who it was. ’Why is she here, at this hour?’ I thought while rubbing my temples.
"Brother Al~ .... I just~ ... I was just asking about his health. Okay~ .... now, I will be taking my leave," she mumbled and went away. ’What was she going to say just now? The person~ .... what person?’
I felt Alaric’s gaze on me and asked, "Is there something you want to say?"
He gave me a weird enough smirk and walked away, casually.
*Sigh*, these siblings are giving me a headache. Roaming around my room. It feels like they are spying on me or something. I’d better be careful. In the end, instead of calling, I decided to leave a message. After all, this mansion has too many ears now, I can’t take any risk.
"Myra, I heard what happened? Why didn’t you tell me? Are we not friends? Do you not trust me at all?" I typed, then deleted. It sounded way too aggressive.
"Myra~ ... you should have told me about the campus forum thing. You know how shocked and hurt I am to know this," I entered, but backspaced it as well. Too emotional, too clingy.
After chopping and changing several times, I finally sent, "Myra~ .... Prof. Johnson told me about what happened on campus today. Are you alright?"
Around half an hour, her reply came, "I am fine." The plain words stung a bit. But I still messaged her instantly, "Can we meet?"
I waited and waited, but no reply came.
