(Author’s POV)
"Do you have no regard for your life? What were you trying to do?" Alaric chided Myra while holding her.
Myra grimaced as a sharp pain shot across her leg. One of her wounds had come undone. Yelena intervened, "Alaric Everests, why are you scolding her? Can’t you see she is hurt?"
Though Alaric wanted to say a lot, he held his tongue when he glanced at Myra again. Her colorless, ghostlike complexion had set a panic alarm in his entire being. Like always, he blamed Alex for his reaction, ’Alex, keep your emotions in check.’
Alex refrained from saying anything; his entire focus remained on his mate.
Soon, Nora arrived with a doctor and two nurses. The doctor immediately instructed to vacate the room and wait outside. Everyone started to walk out, everyone except Alaric.
He didn’t know why, but his legs couldn’t move, more he wanted to leave Myra alone. He had done it in the past; he didn’t want to do it again. Alex shared the same sentiment.
Nora, noticing that her brother wasn’t following her, she came back and patted his shoulder, "Brother Al, let’s not disturb the procedure and wait outside." Reluctantly, he let Myra’s hand slip away from his grasp. His blood stained hands, which felt warm a few moments ago, were now all cold.
He was the last one to walk out of the room as the door closed behind him. His eyes remained fixated on the door. Nora kept pacing back and forth in the corridor, and Yelena was biting her nails with anxiety.
Meanwhile, Garry had a complicated expression. He was gazing at Alaric, trying to decipher his sudden outburst towards Myra.
In a few minutes, William also returned. He got to know about what happened to his daughter and was stupefied. But before he could ask anything, the door slid open once again and out came the doctor.
He rushed to her and asked, "Doct~or, how~ ... is my daughter?"
"The stitches on the patient’s left leg had been opened. We have redone that and given her medicine, so she is resting now. But, Mr. Miracle, she is already in a bad state. And I clearly said that she should do no stressful or rigorous work. Please, keep that in mind." With that, the doctor left.
The nurse glanced at Nora and added, "Ma’am, if there is a need for you to call the staff, please press the button given near the bed and do not run in the hallway. It causes disturbance to other patients and their guardians as well." Saying her piece, she too disappeared down the hallway.
Once again, they all enter the room, their expression solemn. Myra was tucked away peacefully in bed. William walked and sat beside. Then, without looking at anybody, he said, his words firm, "You all can return now."
No one dared to say anything.
Nora then picked up the lunch boxes and said, "Uncle Will, we will come in the evening." Before William could deny, she walked away, gesturing Alaric to come as well.
Alaric turned around to see Myra’s face once. A dreadful feeling ran through his blood.
Garry spoke, "William, if you need any help. Just give a call." William nodded, and Garry stepped out too. Yelena remained, but William asked her to leave as well, "You should go back, Yel."
"But~ ..." she tried to say something, but William interrupted, "Yelena, it’s an order."
She chewed at her lips, stood there for another two to three seconds and then decided to go. After all, Sandra and Wendy were at home as well and must have wanted to come, but since William had strictly said no to cabs, it should be her responsibility to drive them to the hospital.
