(Amelia’s POV)
The next day, I woke up early, stuffed those pregnancy kits in my bag and walked all the way to my school. In between, I dumped those kits in a trash bin.
I waited at the gate for Denver to arrive, and when I saw him, I dragged him to the empty auditorium and told him. Before buying any abortion pills, I wanted him to know. "Did you, that night~ ... did you use any protection?"
At first, he was caught off guard by my words. After a moment, he said, "Uhh~ ... yes, I did. Don’t you remember?"
That means that split hair of a chance~ ... it had happened with me. I finally said, my eyes heavily moist, "Denver~ I don’t know but even after that~ ... I~ ... I am pregnant." My nose stung.
When he heard me, I could see his body stiffening rigid. Shock was etched on his face, "What~ ... what did you say?" He said, "Are you~ ... are you really?" His eyes were ready to bulge out.
I nodded. To my utter surprise, after his initial shock, he smiled and took me into a tight, warm embrace, "Lia~ .... really." I could tell he was happy.
I pulled over and told him straightaway, "I can’t have this baby, Denver. I just can’t~ .... I will be taking abortion pills."
He looked at me with hurt and spoke, "Lia~ .... Why don’t we keep it. It’s our baby. Our human being. Our little creation. Don’t you love me?"
"I love you, Denver. Of course, I love you, bu~ .... but I am~ .... I haven’t even completed school yet. I haven’t become a veterinarian. I haven’t started my life yet. I can’t do this. I am not ready to be a mother," I told him the truth, half sobbing.
"You can still do that, Lia. You can complete school. You can get your degree, you can be a neurosurgeon, a cardiologist, ~ .... a veterinarian~ ... anything. Your life~ ... it won’t stop. I will make sure. I will be with you in every corner of life. I promise you, Lia, .... I will do everything for that child," he tried to convince me, but I remained adamant.
He somehow gave in, but the disappointment was evident on his face, or was there something more than that?
On days that came after that, I was really nervous and jittery, scared shitless. I started having illusions of people staring at my belly and whispering bad stuff. Denver kept reassuring me that everything would be fine, but there was a dull feeling brimming inside me, telling me, nagging at me that something bad was about to happen.
Despite that, I tried to remain optimistic. ’Everything will be back to normal, Lia. Yeah, it will all be fine.’
A week and a half after that, Denver had pulled some strings and booked an appointment at a private clinic for me. I told my family I would be staying with my friend for a study session and wouldn’t be coming that night. As exams were nearing, they didn’t say much.
At the doctor’s clinic, a few other patients were waiting for their turn. Two of them were heavily pregnant, their due date must be near. And the others had a baby bump showing. I glanced at my flat stomach and mumbled to the like that was growing inside me, "Baby, I am sorry. I really didn’t wanted this to happen. I am sorry. I am so sorry. Please forgive me~ ... if you could."
