Coupled with the fact that the Neural Resurgence Serum—the very drug capable of extending life—was sparking a bidding war of epic proportions.
Yet Duke Leopold's suite hadn't submitted a single bid.
It made no sense.
Duke Leopold was notoriously arrogant and ruthless.
If he wanted something, he took it.
That serum was the Duke's only hope for survival.
With his aggressive personality, he would never have waited to make a final call.
Blood rushed to Mordecai's head, the veins in his forehead pulsing.
He finally understood.
"Team A, form up!"
"Move out immediately. Surround the top-floor VIP suite!"
His subordinate's eyes widened in shock before he barked out the orders.
Team A mobilized. Thirty heavily armed figures draped in black cloaks surged toward the top floor like a wave of phantoms.
Mordecai stood at the rear of the formation.
His gaze was venomous. He pointed at the tightly shut door and ordered coldly, "Breach."
He was going to tear these arrogant intruders apart with his bare hands!
Following his command, a hulking member of Team A stepped forward.
With a single, devastating kick, the reinforced, bulletproof security door was blown off its hinges.
The door shattered, sending debris and dust flying through the air.
Mordecai stood behind his men, staring into the suite with a chilling sneer.
He fully expected to see the intruders trembling in fear.
He wanted to watch them scatter like rats.
He wanted them begging for mercy.
He was going to see exactly who had the nerve to mess with the Obsidian Sun.
It was a gaze of utter disdain and absolute control.
When the girl's cold eyes finally locked onto his, her red lips curved into a smile.
"Took you long enough."
She sighed dramatically, her cool voice dripping with a lazy, mocking drawl. "You really are too slow, Special Envoy Mordecai."
She used his title flawlessly.
But coming from her lips, the exaggerated cadence felt like a brutal insult.
Mordecai stood behind Team A, his eyes glued to the girl's face.
For reasons he couldn't explain, a suffocating wave of dread crashed over him.
It was an intensely oppressive aura.
The sensation made his chest tighten with frustration.
It had been years since he had felt this kind of terrifying submission.
