And so, the Captain of The Dragon-Thorn Squad, Elyndor's supreme military king, was standing in public for the first time by a backstage exit, holding a little strawberry cake, waiting for someone.
The sight was impossibly absurd.
But Jerrick didn't care.
Right now, his heart was filled with an indescribable mix of anticipation and anxiety.
Even though he had always complained about his family nagging him, now that he was actually about to meet the biological sister who had been lost for years and only recently found, he felt a rare flutter of nervousness.
He was even mentally adjusting his facial expressions.
Don't look too mean.
Don't scare her.
And don't sound like you're interrogating a suspect.
His mother had repeatedly emphasized that his little sister was sweet, sensible, and had a soft personality. She had definitely suffered a lot living out there all these years.
Now, meeting her for the first time in a foreign country, at an international competition no less.
As her older brother, he had to comfort her first. He had to tell her not to be nervous, not to be afraid, that her family was here, and that her brother was here.
Jerrick rehearsed the script in his head over and over again.
Like, what should be the first thing he says when he sees her?
Should he say, "I'm your brother Jerrick," or should he say, "Don't be nervous"?
Or maybe he should just hand over the strawberry cake first?
As Jerrick pondered this, he pulled out his phone, figuring he'd check out the trending replay of the opening ceremony while he waited.
Especially the Captain of the Elyndor team.
He was genuinely curious about this Elyndor Captain—who also had the last name Lancaster, and who Ambassador Sterling had spoken of with clear approval... and even a hint of respect.
He really wanted to see if that girl was the same little girl he saw last night.
But just as he pulled out his phone, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a few suspicious figures slipping through a nearby corridor...
He froze, his eyes narrowing sharply.
Near one of the corridors leading away from the exit, a few men, deliberately muffling their footsteps, were tailing a member wearing The Elyndor Delegation Uniforms, quickly turning into a secluded passage.
