A soft chuckle escaped her lips, but the amusement in her eyes vanished in a heartbeat. With a flick of her wrist, several silver needles shot from her fingertips, embedding themselves violently into the suite's massive floor-to-ceiling window.
A heavy, muffled thud echoed from outside.
In the dead silence of the night, the sound was bone-chilling.
Nicholas's gaze turned instantly lethal. Without a second thought, he pulled Serena behind him and fixed his eyes on the glass.
Under the pale moonlight, several twisted, grotesque faces were pressed against the tinted surface.
They were on the thirty-seventh floor of the Skyline Seven-Star Hotel.
Yet these things clung to the exterior wall, their limbs suctioned to the glass, their cloudy, erratic eyes locking onto the two people inside.
The one Serena had hit with her needles had already plummeted into the darkness below.
Six remained.
They were the Obsidian Augments, the biological weapons engineered by the Obsidian Sun.
With their distorted features and bloodshot eyes plastered against the glass, it was a scene straight out of a nightmare.
Nicholas narrowed his eyes, his expression darkening into something utterly predatory.
He had flown all this way just to see Serena, and now these freaks were ruining his night.
He had been mere seconds away from kissing her.
These suicidal pieces of trash.
They actually dared to interrupt his precious reunion.
They were going to pay.
The glass shattered with an explosive crash as the lead Augment smashed its fist right through the reinforced pane.
A violent gust of wind howled into the room, carrying shards of glass as the mutated monsters roared and lunged forward.
Their speed and power were far beyond human limits.
But as fast as they were, Nicholas was faster.
Serena didn't even need to lift a finger.
Nicholas was already moving, his face a mask of absolute freezing rage.
