Serena held the specialized neural data charts she had compiled using her grandmother's inherited research. As she reviewed the data and walked toward the other critical care patients, a skeletal, trembling hand suddenly grabbed her wrist.
The grip was weak, but it carried an overwhelming, desperate intensity.
Serena paused and looked down.
An elderly man who had just regained consciousness was staring at her, his cloudy eyes burning with an intense light.
It was Dr. Geoffrey Grant, Elyndor's legendary neurologist who had been rescued from the underground facility by the Dragon-Thorn Squad. Five years ago, the academic world had mourned his tragic, supposedly accidental death.
Dr. Grant's gaze was locked onto the modified neural data charts in Serena's hands. When he had groggily opened his eyes, he had watched this young woman flawlessly execute a complex neural-stimulation procedure on a fellow expert.
The methodology...
It was too familiar.
His lips trembled violently.
"Aria... Aria Wynn..."
The old man's voice was hoarse, his eyes instantly turning red.
At the sound of that name, Serena froze.
Her gaze hardened, and for the first time, a visible ripple of emotion broke through her icy exterior. "You knew Aria Wynn?"
Tears spilled from Dr. Grant's eyes. His chest heaved with such violent agitation that the heart monitor began to beep frantically. "How... how are you related to her?"
"Young lady, the neural pathway deductions, the precise methodology you just used... I would never mistake it. Never!"
"What... what is your relationship with Chief Engineer Wynn? I worked under her! She was the lead engineer for Elyndor's Project Genesis! We built the foundational data for the Neural Synapse Interface with her!"
