She casually lifted a hand, her fingertips lightly brushing against her own lips.
They still burned with Nicholas's lingering heat.
The provocative gesture sent the frustration Jerrick had just swallowed right back to the surface.
Serena's pale, gorgeous features lit up with a blindingly brilliant smirk. "Oh my! Captain Fenris, are you monitoring this, too?"
She took a half-step forward, tilting her head to look up at him with teasing eyes. "You're only in charge of security for Specimen Fourteen. I didn't realize your duties included micromanaging the chief medical officer's private life."
The furious retort died on Jerrick's tongue.
Why shouldn't he care?
That was his sister!
How was he supposed to stand back and watch some man with a shady background manhandle and devour her like that?
But... he was painfully aware he was currently operating under the guise of Fenris.
Who The Panacea kissed or said goodbye to had absolutely nothing to do with a mercenary hired to guard a biological asset.
Even watching Serena get intimate with the enigmatic Sovereign, he needed an airtight excuse just to ask a single question.
Furthermore, Jerrick knew Serena was blatantly testing him right now.
He had undeniably been acting out of character lately.
If he pushed the issue any further, a woman as sharp as her would instantly figure out the truth.
Taking a deep breath, Jerrick violently shoved down the tightness in his chest and turned away with a frigid glare. "The verification is about to start. Don't be late."
Tossing the curt warning over his shoulder, he strode off.
If he stayed for another second, he was terrified he'd lose control and demand to know what the hell was so great about The Sovereign that she trusted him so blindly.
Serena watched him storm off, a mischievous glimmer settling in her eyes.
Captain Fenris usually maintained an impenetrable poker face, burying his emotions under ice.
