Director Thorne stood by silently, making no move to intervene. He merely fixed a dark, calculating stare on the ship's representative.
Clearly, he was weaponizing Professor Watson's arrogance to force the ship into a corner.
They came to extract Specimen Fourteen as fast as possible, not to waste time waiting on a young woman's signature.
If they could pressure the ship into swapping her out for someone more pliable, all the better.
Listening to Professor Watson's rant, Serena's icy demeanor only grew colder. She raised an eyebrow and asked in a dismissive tone, "So, this intake hardware was personally configured by you, the great international professor?"
"Exactly." Professor Watson tilted his chin up, radiating pride. "I personally signed off on it, and I can assure you, our equipment is flawless!"
He paused, sneering at Serena with undisguised contempt. "Of course, the technology involved is rather dense. If Ms. Panacea is struggling to grasp the concepts, I can send someone over to dumb it down for you."
The moment he finished speaking, several of the PhDs behind him snickered. "Professor Watson, why even bother explaining it to her?"
"Professor, let's not embarrass the girl. High-level biological subjects and mixing potions are hardly the same discipline."
"The algorithms inside that neural control module aren't something you learn by skimming a few pages."
"Even if you broke it down, she probably wouldn't get it."
"Forget it. It's getting late, and we need to wrap up this transfer. There's no point wasting time here."
"If the ship just wants to check a box and get a signature, why make us jump through hoops?"
"We've been standing here long enough. We shouldn't have to give a beginner's lecture on biology just to get our property."
They chimed in one after another, their laughter thick with mockery.
The looks they shot Serena were laden with blatant disrespect.
