Hearing that it was a key national project backed by Mr. Harrison, the worry on her family’s faces gradually faded, replaced by immense pride and honor.
But mostly, they were reluctant to see her go.
“Don’t worry about me too much,” the girl explained in her calm, cool voice. “I’ll find time to come back and visit everyone. If things go smoothly… I might even make it back for Brianna’s coming-of-age party.”
The Lancasters exchanged glances. Though they didn’t want her to leave, what could they do? Their precious girl was just that outstanding.
When the nation called, it was her duty to answer.
Old Mr. Lancaster sighed. “Since it’s for work, then fine… you should go. But you have to promise us you’ll call when you have time.”
Serena nodded with a smile. “Of course.”
Catherine held her daughter’s hand, her heart aching with reluctance. “Then… you have to take good care of yourself. No matter how busy you are, you must eat on time.”
Serena patted Catherine’s hand. “It’s just for a few days. Don’t worry.”
The living room was filled with a warm, caring atmosphere as everyone gathered around Serena, fussing over her.
On the second-floor landing, Isabella nearly crushed the glass in her hand.
A key national project?
And Mr. Harrison asked her to oversee it?
She was so full of herself.
Even if Serena had gotten some national-level certificate before, it was a complete fluke, and it was all thanks to her!
Serena was just taking advantage of the fact that Isabella didn't dare reveal she had stolen the laptop, forcibly claiming credit that belonged to her!
And now she was putting on such a grand act.
Did Serena have any self-awareness? She was just a country girl, a slacker who didn't even want to go to school.
Thinking about the Wynn family’s current situation, Serena could almost understand why Old Mrs. Wynn had left all her shares to her before she passed away.
Part of it was out of concern for her, fearing that Marianne wouldn't like her and would treat her poorly after she returned to the family. Giving her the shares would at least make Marianne wary.
But the bigger reason was that Patrick and Marianne were simply too incompetent.
Otherwise, they wouldn't have collapsed so completely, unable to even get back up, the moment she withdrew all the support she had been providing.
Didn't that prove that the Wynn Group's rise to prominence in Vaelion City was entirely dependent on the help she provided?
They had so many good resources, yet they managed the Wynn Group into this state.
No wonder Old Mrs. Wynn hadn’t been willing to give them a single share, even on her deathbed.
At this thought, Serena’s eyes lifted, and she looked at Julian Lancaster. “Julian, there is actually one thing I need your help with.”
