"Damn it, move your legs, you old fool!"
"Miss Lancaster! I am so, so sorry! I was delayed!"
The voices arrived before the people did.
Seconds later, Chancellor Keaton sprinted into the room, sweating profusely.
Right behind him were Mr. Harrison and a group of elite, national-level academic deans.
They were all panting, absolutely terrified that their VIP guest might have gotten impatient and left.
Director Keaton froze at the spectacle.
He never expected to see Mr. Harrison and these legendary scholars running through the halls like this.
While these men officially worked at Marington.
They were usually locked away in their labs. Outside of their scheduled lectures, they were completely reclusive.
Director Keaton immediately slapped on a fawning smile and hurried over. "Chancellor Keaton, Mr. Harrison, Deans! What brings you all here? I'm so sorry, an unruly student broke into the office and is sitting in your chair. I was just about to have security throw her out..."
Smack!
Before he could finish.
Chancellor Keaton backhanded him across the face with everything he had.
The sharp crack echoed through the room, leaving Director Keaton seeing stars. He was completely stunned.
"C-Chancellor?"
He held his stinging cheek, utterly bewildered.
But looking past him, he realized... it wasn't just the Chancellor who was furious. Mr. Harrison and the deans were glaring at him with murderous intent.
He shoved Director Keaton aside and rushed forward.
He picked up the redacted admissions file from the floor, dusted it off carefully, and respectfully placed it back on the desk with both hands.
"I am so sorry. We were late, and this blind idiot offended you!"
Chancellor Keaton practically bowed at the waist to Serena. "Miss Lancaster, it's my fault for not managing my staff properly. Please don't lower yourself to his level. I'll have him removed from Marington immediately. You'll never have to see him again."
The usually arrogant academic elites all crowded around Serena, beaming with flattering smiles. "Miss Lancaster, are you alright? If you're angry, we'll deal with him. Just please don't leave!"
"Is that chair comfortable? If not, we can head straight to the lab! I specifically ordered an ergonomic chair that will suit you perfectly."
"How long has she been sitting here? Nobody has any manners! Someone pour her some coffee!"
