She pulled out her phone, just about to call Nicholas.
When a message popped up.
Nicholas: [Look to your right, under the third tree.]
Serena looked over.
Beneath an old oak tree, the man was leaning lazily against the trunk, arms crossed over his chest.
He wasn't wearing a suit today. Instead, he was dressed in casual, stylish clothes that made him look like a college student.
Yet, that face of his was impossibly striking.
His captivating eyes curved upwards, radiating a lazy, roguish charm mixed with a freezing, untouchable aloofness.
The girls walking by couldn't help but blush, their hearts racing. They wanted to take pictures, but the icy aura surrounding him terrified them so much they didn't dare lift their phones.
"Wow! Who is that guy? He's so hot!"
"I just saw the car he was driving. There are barely any of those in Vaelion City!"
"Who is he waiting for? Could he... be the boyfriend of one of the top beauties on campus?"
Whispers buzzed constantly around them.
Serena raised an eyebrow.
Very handsome.
Definitely easy on the eyes.
But the moment Serena's gaze met his.
A brilliant, warm smile instantly spread across the man's features.
He pushed off the tree, taking long, purposeful strides toward her.
He naturally reached out, taking the canvas tote bag from Serena's hand before slipping his other hand into hers.
"First day of school. Are you tired?"
Nicholas curled his lips, his voice laced with pure affection.
Serena let him hold her hand, letting out a lazy hum. "Just a bunch of idiots giving me a headache with their noise."
"I wouldn't dare." Nicholas clicked the seatbelt into place, his breathtakingly handsome face hovering right in front of hers. "The Blackwood family donated half the buildings at Marington College."
Serena reached up, shoving his impossibly perfect face away, offering the most sarcastic praise imaginable. "Well, aren't you just wonderful."
The man sat back in his seat, resting one hand lazily on the steering wheel. "I certainly am. At Marington College, you can do whatever you want. Even if you burn the whole place to the ground, I can cover it up for you."
Serena shot him a look. "I'm here under orders to go to school, not to cause trouble."
"Of course, of course," Nicholas chuckled.
But then, his tone shifted smoothly. "But, Serena... stay away from those little boys at school."
His captivating eyes darkened, his voice dropping an octave. "Especially that class president of yours. I really don't like the way he looks at you..."
Serena raised an eyebrow. "You even know how the president of my class looks at me. Did you donate a building or a surveillance camera?"
Nicholas's gaze deepened slightly as he looked past her head, out the window, toward the direction of the library.
His thin lips curled into a smirk. "Yeah, I did. What can I say? I get jealous easily, and I want to keep you all to myself."
Serena shot him another glare. "Since you installed a surveillance camera, you should also know that those geniuses in the Vanguard Honors Program can't stand a slacker like me. How could they possibly look at me with any good intentions?"
