His entire speech was delivered in a vile, creeping tone.
Especially those last few lines.
It was like listening to a stalker savoring a sick delusion.
Thoroughly repulsive.
Caleb, overhearing the call, went deathly pale and immediately shook his head at Serena.
This was a blatant attempt to drive a wedge between them!
Whether Sebastian's threats were real or not.
The seed of doubt was meant to destroy their teamwork.
If the Captain stopped trusting him...
Caleb panicked, desperate to defend himself.
Serena held up a hand.
Silencing him instantly.
She kept her composure, an icy smile touching her lips. "Sebastian, your psychological warfare is embarrassingly amateur."
"If Caleb was actually your mole, you would never call me to announce it. You're only running your mouth because you're out of options."
"Is this the limit of the great Doyle heir? Holding grandmothers hostage and throwing cheap tantrums?"
"You're a disappointment. You don't even have the spine for a real fight. Pathetic."
With that.
Serena ended the call.
She looked over at Caleb.
He was shaking, his eyes rimmed with red.
"Did you understand all of that?" Serena asked calmly.
Caleb nodded. "He wants you to doubt me. He wants us to tear each other apart."
Serena nodded. "I chose you. I trust my team."
Caleb's fists clenched, overwhelmed by her unwavering trust. "But... it's true I took the Cerebro-Flex pills for two years."
"And you haven't taken them for days," Serena countered lightly. "Have you felt any tremors? Any palpitations?"
Caleb aggressively wiped his eyes, his fists tightening as a fierce, unyielding fire ignited in his chest.
"I get it now! We are going to win this competition, and we are going to crush them! We'll use this victory to bury the Doyle family!"
He stared at Serena, entirely resolute.
The fire in his soul was roaring.
In that moment.
He realized that some people were truly worth following to the ends of the earth.
He was going to win.
He had to.
Soon, the Blackwood medical team arrived with a stretcher and carefully transported Mrs. Sommers downstairs.
Caleb gave Serena one last look of absolute gratitude.
Then he rushed after the paramedics to follow his grandmother to safety.
The next morning, at six o'clock.
