"Caleb?!" Vanessa stared at him in disbelief. Was he really going to abandon Lydia?
"The Captain said she'll bring her back, which means she will," Caleb declared, emphasizing every word. "Our job is to go to the stadium and secure our spot! Even if the Captain doesn't make it back on time, we will fight tooth and nail to stall until she returns with Lydia!"
It was a testament to his absolute trust in Serena.
It was a desperate gamble.
A gamble that the Captain he loyally followed could pull off the impossible.
Vanessa and Jasper clenched and unclenched their fists.
Finally, they took a deep breath, determination hardening in their eyes. "Fine, we're heading to the stadium right now! Lydia is important, and so is the competition! We won't surrender, and we won't let the Doyles win!"
The three climbed into the Lancaster family car.
As Vanessa closed the door, her tear-filled eyes locked onto Serena. "You'll bring her back, right?"
"Yes."
Just one simple word.
A calm, flat response.
Yet, to Vanessa, it carried an immense weight.
Her gaze turned resolute. "We'll be waiting for both of you at the stadium!"
The doors shut, and the engine roared.
The Lancaster family car sped off toward the venue.
Serena withdrew her gaze. Her calm eyes turned predatory, the air around her dropping to a freezing chill.
Her expression turned entirely somber as she pulled out her phone.
A sickening, twisted chuckle echoed from the speaker, making her skin crawl. "Miss Lancaster. I've been waiting for your call."
His voice oozed with a deranged, psychotic excitement. "How does it feel? Missing a teammate?"
"Where is she?" Serena cut straight to the chase.
"Oh, don't be so aggressive," Sebastian Doyle chuckled low and menacingly. "My target has always been you. Relax, I won't touch your little friend just yet."
"Assuming, of course, you follow my instructions like a good girl."
Serena knew he wouldn't harm Lydia immediately.
Lydia was the only leverage he had over her.
Serena didn't have time for his games. "Address."
"So straightforward." Sebastian purred, sounding thoroughly satisfied. "Head north of Marington College. You'll find the Alderney Chemical Plant. Your little teammate and I will be waiting for you."
