Josefina found herself caught in a whirlwind of self-doubt. Was she just overthinking everything? She kept quiet, but Percy, picking up on her unease, sat down beside her, his voice steady and reassuring.
"Josie, maybe we've got it all wrong."
Meeting Percy’s calm gaze, Josefina let out a soft laugh. "Well, if we're wrong, then so be it. Sometimes, a mistake isn’t the end of the world. They’re family to Grandpa Brandon. If there was really something wrong, Grandpa wouldn’t be able to handle it."
With only two sons, if both were causing trouble, it’d be a lot for anyone to handle.
"Josie, over at Darren’s, they’ve used some sort of test to catch the bad guys, and they’re already in custody. Darren wants to take you out for dinner tomorrow and asked if you’d be up for it."
"I'm going to skip it. You know my current situation makes it tricky for me to go out for these things."
Percy nodded, knowing all too well that Josefina’s health didn’t allow for social gatherings.
Just then, Josefina’s phone buzzed with a call from an unknown number. She answered it, and Finley’s distressed voice came through.
"Sis-in-law, can you come back and handle your apprentice? He’s trying to pull down my pants to put medicine on my backside. Do you think that’s appropriate?"
Josefina felt a wave of embarrassment. "Definitely not appropriate. Hang tight, I'm on my way. If it gets too much, get Harry to pull Logan away and distract him with some apple pie or something."
"Sis-in-law, please hurry back. I don’t think I can hold out much longer."
Ending the call, she got up and headed for the door.
Percy, a bit worried about Logan, offered to give her a ride.
"You stay here and keep working on the follow-up. The driver brought me here, so I’ll be fine."
Josefina quickly made her way outside, where the driver was already waiting. She jumped into the car, urging him to hurry, hoping to sort things out before Logan caused a scene.
…
Seeing Logan’s mood shift, Finley sighed, sweating under his blanket.
"You should have explained better. I thought you were interested in me in that way."
Logan blinked, completely confused. "In what way?"
Harry and Asher exchanged a look of disbelief.
How did Mr. Oliver, with all his cunning and strategy, end up with friends like these? Maybe Mr. Oliver had some dirt on Finley and was stuck in this friendship.
Harry and Asher’s eyes met, both thinking this theory might just be true.
Mr. Oliver, you really have your work cut out for you!
