Sandi was heading off to the University of Melbourne for her studies, with her mom, Makiko, tagging along for the journey. As they strolled through the campus, Sandi couldn't help but be impressed by the surroundings. "Wow, the schools here are pretty nice too," she remarked, taking in the lush greenery and historic buildings.
Makiko leaned in, speaking softly in Japanese, "When you get to campus, make sure you find Josefina. She's familiar with everything, and since you both are in the medical field, she can definitely help you out."
Sandi sighed, a bit exasperated. "Mom, why do you keep pushing this Josefina thing? I mean, yeah, we're related, but we hardly know each other."
Makiko's tone turned stern, almost icy. "Are you not going to listen to me?"
A cold shiver ran down Sandi's spine. Defying her mother wasn't an option. "Alright, alright, I'll go find Josefina right now."
Makiko nodded, pleased. Her eyes softened. "Good, let's get going."
...
After calling Josefina and finding out she was at the medical club office, Sandi and Makiko made their way there.
Josefina was settling into her chair, bundled in a black winter coat, when they arrived. She was a bit taken aback by their perfect timing. Did they somehow know she'd be here?
With a warm smile, Josefina greeted them. "Makiko, Sandi, you made it!"
Sandi beamed, "I'm here for school, and I heard you're at the University of Melbourne too, so I thought I'd drop by. Josie, you've got to show me the ropes!"
Makiko chimed in gently, "Josie, Sandi’s new here and doesn’t really know anyone else. I hope you can help her out."
Josefina reassured, "Of course, it's no problem. I'm still getting settled myself, but I'll introduce her to some folks. She'll feel at home in no time."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it," Makiko smiled warmly.
"Thanks, Josie," Sandi added, looping her arm through Josefina's in a spontaneous, friendly gesture that showed just how comfortable she was.
