Josefina whipped out her phone and fired off a quick text to Luke, telling him to hold down the fort at the entrance and split up for their next move. Wherever Makiko went, someone needed to tail her. As for Josefina, she had bigger fish to fry.
Settling back into her car, she opened her laptop, set up a hotspot, and got busy hacking into the neighborhood's surveillance system. It didn't take long before she was in. She zoomed in on the footage where Makiko had been, trying to figure out which floor or apartment she was headed to. Of course, just her luck, the cameras at that intersection were out of commission, and the surrounding ones weren’t much help either. Tracking Makiko was turning into a real headache.
Josefina called Livia for reinforcements. Livia showed up in no time, with a cup of bubble tea in hand. "Hey Josie, this one's for you."
"Thanks," Josefina replied, taking the drink. She caught Livia up on the situation, and they put their heads together to plan their next move.
Livia grinned. "Oh, this is a piece of cake. I brought some props." With that, Livia slipped on a nondescript outfit and applied makeup to transform into a weather-beaten middle-aged woman.
"I'm going to play the part of a scorned wife whose husband has a mistress. I won't directly describe Makiko, but I'll drop some hints. Josie, you hang tight for my good news."
Livia hopped out of the car, discreetly applying a few eye drops to make her eyes look red and puffy, like she'd been crying her eyes out, then walked off, theatrically rubbing her eyes. Josefina gave her a thumbs-up. "You're killing it."
It was showtime, and Livia wasn't about to mess it up. Josefina sat back in the car, waiting for any updates.
...
An hour and a half later, Josefina got a message from Livia.
Livia: Nailed it, Building 11.
Just as Josefina was about to step out of the car, another message from Livia came through.
