Josefina had this gut feeling that something was off, like something big was about to unfold. But she didn’t just storm over to Percy’s place to confront him. Instead, she played it cool, pretending she didn’t have a clue.
She picked up her phone and dialed Luke, hoping to get some scoop out of him. “Hey Luke, have you grabbed dinner or caught up with Percy lately?”
“Nah, haven’t seen him recently. We’ve both been swamped. It feels like forever since we all hung out.”
Josefina didn’t get much from Luke, just the usual chit-chat before they said their goodbyes. Still curious, she decided to head over to Oliver’s office.
Oliver was in the zone, typing away at his computer, the sound of the keys a familiar rhythm. When he saw Josefina come in, he didn’t get up but gave her a nod to take a seat.
“Hey Josie, make yourself comfy. I just need to finish up a few things.”
“No rush, take your time. I’ll keep myself entertained.”
Josefina pulled out her phone and immersed herself in a quick game. The familiar sounds made Oliver chuckle knowingly.
After a bit, Oliver wrapped up his work, and Josefina put her phone away.
She filled him in on her run-in with Percy. “Oliver, don’t you think Percy’s keeping something from me?”
Oliver took her hand, his eyes locking onto hers. “Josie, you’re talking about another guy to your hubby. You really think I’m that easygoing?”
Josefina paused, momentarily at a loss for words.
“Oliver, I’m serious. Stop dodging the topic. Do you feel it too?”
Oliver nodded, “Josie, Percy’s his own person. He’s got his own things, his own secrets, right?”
Yeah, that’s true. But Josefina couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to it.
“If you’re that curious, why not just ask him directly? You guys are friends, not enemies.”
Josefina realized Oliver was right on the money.
