Darren tried to hide his smile, but it felt awkward to stop, so he just kept grinning.
“Selah, you’re back at the Bureau now. After studying overseas for two years, how does it feel to be home?”
“It’s been really good. I learned a lot from their tech. Now I’m hoping I can use what I picked up to do an even better job for our country,” Selah said, genuinely.
Josefina never would’ve guessed Selah actually worked for the Bureau. She was so stunning—bright and beautiful—that it was hard to imagine her in intelligence work.
“Selah, this is Josefina. She’s made huge contributions to the Bureau—a real talent. Honestly, if I could, I’d recruit her in a heartbeat.”
Selah’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly hid it. She should’ve figured—anyone who could be Oliver’s girlfriend had to be something special. Oliver had never even liked anyone before, and now he was openly with someone? That could only mean both of them were standouts.
Thinking about all the rumors swirling around the Bureau lately, Selah suddenly understood. If Josefina was involved, it all made sense.
“You’re the genius girl everyone’s been talking about?” Selah couldn’t help her shock.
Darren nodded. “That’s right. Josefina’s the one everyone’s been whispering about. She was the key to saving the students in that recent lab incident. There’s no doubt about her skills.”
Josefina: “…”
Wait, when did she become the genius everyone talked about? Who started these rumors? Why was she the last to know?
Selah’s eyes lit up with fresh admiration. She never expected Josefina to have this side to her.
“Darren, stop it. You’re making me embarrassed,” Josefina said, wanting to disappear, especially since people walking by were starting to point and whisper, “That’s her, that’s the genius girl!”
“Darren, let’s get to work, okay? I still have to go to campus later. I can’t hang around for long.”
Darren hurried her along. “Josie, this way. Come on, we’re on the clock.”
After a few quick pleasantries, Josefina followed Darren inside.
Selah watched them go, her gaze lingering on Josefina’s back until they disappeared from view.
