Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 1252

They were pissed.

What the hell was going on?

Wilder slammed his hand on the table. “If you walk out now, there’ll be no one left to manage the final phase. We’ll lose a fortune! Rhett, how could you do this to us?”

Cole jumped in, desperate. “Is it the money? Just say a number, any number. I’ll pay whatever you want.”

Rhett didn’t even bother to hide his annoyance.

Don’t insult me with money.

“I’m not leaving because of the money. I have my own reasons. Find someone else for the project—I’ve already recommended a replacement. Here’s his card.” Rhett set the business card down without a second glance.

Cole’s eyes darkened, a flicker of barely contained rage. Why now, of all times, would Rhett turn his back on them?

He gritted his teeth, trying to play it cool. “Rhett, is this about Josefina? Is she pulling something? You told me you two hated each other. But now, when you know we’re up against her and Calix, you quit? Is it because of her?”

Rhett almost laughed at the absurdity of it.

“Mr. Oliver, that’s ridiculous! I have never liked Josefina!” Rhett shot back, voice sharp.

“Then why quit? Give me one good reason!”

“That’s my business. It’s personal,” Rhett said, already tired of the back-and-forth.

“Fine, I’m done here. Forget the starting salary, forget the bonuses. Keep it all—I don’t want a cent.”

After all that time with Cole’s company, Rhett was leaving empty-handed.

He walked out without looking back, dropping everything.

Wilder and Cole just sat there, slumped and stunned, a million questions swirling in their minds.

Why would he quit out of nowhere?

Wilder let out a half-hearted sigh. “Dad, what are we supposed to do now? I’ve already told everyone our next project would be something incredible.”

Cole didn’t want to talk anymore. He felt hollowed out, like something important had just vanished.

“We don’t have a choice. We’ll have to figure it out. I’ll find someone to fill Rhett’s spot—the project can’t crash before it even starts. I’ll try talking to Rhett again, see if I can convince him.”

Makiko hung up, her eyes turning cold and dangerous.

Rhett got Makiko’s call. She wanted to talk in person about why he was leaving.

He didn’t have much of a choice, so he went.

He pushed open the door to the club’s private room, and was immediately hit with a wall of perfume.

A pale, slender arm reached out and pulled him inside. A woman draped in barely-there chiffon smiled up at him, her body practically melting into his.

“Hey, handsome,” she purred, her voice sweet and teasing. “Whatever you’re into, I’m all yours tonight.”
