Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 1283

When Alex walked back into the office, he could feel everyone’s eyes on him, and not in a good way. The bridal show they’d all worked so hard on had crashed and burned—months of effort, gone in an instant.

If the company went under because of this, where would they all go? Jobs were hard enough to find these days, let alone one with the perks and benefits they had here.

He could sense the blame in the room, and it was aimed right at him and Deanna.

Deanna trailed in behind him, immediately picking up on the chilly vibe. People weren’t their usual friendly selves—not even close.

She paused, took a breath, and said loudly, “I know I let the company down. I let you all down after everything we’ve put into this. I’m not running away from it. If someone needs to take responsibility, I’ll take it. I promise, I’m not going to complain or make excuses.”

She sounded so noble, almost like a martyr, but no one responded. Not a word. No one tried to comfort her.

Alex stepped up next. “I’m not going to dodge responsibility. I was in charge, this happened on my watch. If there’s blame to bear, I’ll take it.”

The silence in the office just got heavier.

Right then, Josefina walked in, her expression serious. “Alex, my office. Now.”

He followed her in and shut the door behind him. Everyone outside probably figured he was about to get chewed out—mess up, and you pay for it. That’s just how it was.

Inside, Alex looked nothing like his usual confident self. He was drained, like all the energy had been sucked out of him overnight.

Josefina took one look at him and actually let out a soft chuckle. “Really, Alex? Is this all it takes to knock you down? Where’s the guy I used to know?”
