Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 686

"Alright, I’m on it. I’ll get someone to look into this right away."

Sydney hung up the phone, still feeling uneasy, like something bad was about to happen.

...

Oliver and Josefina were perched on the roadside, munching on some local barbecue. Oliver had suggested they go back to his place, where they could enjoy their meal in the comfort of air conditioning.

Josefina wasn’t keen on the idea; she figured it might be tricky to leave once they got there.

"Oliver, there's something special about sitting here, enjoying barbecue under the open sky. This place has the best food. Remember? You loved it when we came here last time," Josefina said.

Oliver nodded, "If Josie picks the spot, you know it's going to be good."

Josefina was savoring her lamb skewers when she spotted Mandy and Xavier walking together, laughing and chatting.

Mandy noticed Josefina, and her smile disappeared, replaced by a scowl. She marched over and plopped down next to Josefina.

"Josefina, you're so cruel. You can date whoever you want, but why did you have to rat me out and stop me from seeing someone?" Mandy blurted, clearly upset.

Josefina finished her skewer and set it aside. She glanced from Xavier to Oliver and then back to Mandy with a sharp look. "Mandy, aren’t those eyes under your eyebrows? Can't you see? How can Xavier even compare to Oliver? Besides, I never said you couldn't be with him. Stop causing drama and let me eat in peace, okay?"

Oliver chimed in with a frosty tone, "Me, comparable to him? In what world?"

Feeling cornered, Mandy's frustration grew. She turned around, realizing Xavier hadn’t followed her, which made her even angrier.

Mandy stormed over to Xavier, demanding, "Why didn’t you come over?"

Xavier whispered back, "With Oliver there? How could I?"

Josefina, caught off guard, replied, "...You've got money, looks, and a great physique, happy?"

Oliver chuckled, "Works for me. If Josie says it’s enough, then it must be."

They both laughed off the exchange and continued to enjoy their night out, savoring the skewers and sipping on cold beer.

After finishing their meal, Oliver went to pay the bill while Josefina waited. As Oliver returned and reached out for her hand, Josefina’s phone began to ring.

Jokingly, Oliver teased, "Is that Dorian calling you back home, worried I might whisk you away?"

Josefina checked her phone; it was Alex calling.

As soon as she answered, Alex’s anxious voice filled the line.
