Oliver sat with Josefina on a park bench under the soft glow of the street lamps, waiting for Livia to join them. The silence was suddenly broken by the ringtone of Oliver's phone. It was Finley calling, but Oliver decided to ignore it. Yet, Finley was persistent and called again.
Josefina glanced at Oliver's phone screen and, biting her lip, urged, "Just answer it! Let's hear what he has to say."
With a sigh, Oliver picked up. Finley's voice came through, loud and anxious, "Oliver, are you with Josefina? Does she know where Livia is? I've been knocking on her door, and there's no answer. I tried calling, but it doesn't even sound like her phone is ringing inside. Is she okay?"
Josefina rolled her eyes. "Seriously, what's wrong with this guy?"
Why was Finley bothering with Livia when he had already moved on to Shay?
Noticing Josefina's growing irritation, Oliver responded coldly, "What do you want with Livia, Finley? I thought you were busy with Shay. Or did you suddenly find your way back?"
There was a moment of silence before Finley replied, "Her dog, she sent it back to me. I just... I miss her, you know?"
Josefina couldn't contain her anger any longer. Leaning into the phone, she snapped, "Finley, you're acting like a real dog yourself!"
Oliver quickly ended the call, fearing Josefina's temper might flare even more at the sound of Finley's voice.
"Josie, don't let him get to you. He's not worth it," Oliver tried to soothe her.
But their attention was diverted as Livia finally emerged, looking pale and disoriented.
After getting some instructions from the doctor, they prepared to leave. Josefina turned to Oliver, "You head back first. I'll stay with Livia."
Oliver offered, "How about I drive you home first? You can grab some clothes for Livia. I mean, I'm a guy; it's not really appropriate for me to go through her things."
Standing up, Josefina decided, "Just keep an eye on Livia for me. I'll be quick. I don't want her to be alone right now."
