Ayala was about to say something when Josefina broke into a wide grin. "Auntie, congratulations, you're pregnant!"
Ayala's jaw dropped. "What?"
Evan looked equally stunned. "Wait, what?"
Hattie joined in, smiling, "Sis, that's amazing news!"
Ayala turned to Evan in disbelief. The couple exchanged looks, both utterly astonished.
"Josie, are you serious? I'm really pregnant? But... I'm not exactly young anymore, can I still get pregnant?"
Josefina nodded with a reassuring smile, "Auntie, you are indeed pregnant. It's the early stages, so it's super important to take good care of yourself. Stay happy and healthy."
Evan, holding Ayala's hand, felt a mix of surprise, joy, and worry.
Evan tried to lighten the mood with a joke, "Honey, if we haven't mastered the symphony, playing a little tune can still be beautiful."
Everyone fell silent, not quite sure how to respond.
Ayala shot Evan a stern look. "Mandy is my daughter, and I still hope she can come around."
With a sigh, Ayala added, "I never expected Xavier to be such a scoundrel, poisoning you!"
Evan's anger flared up. "Josie, my dear niece, please help us out here."
Hattie suggested, "Let's start by cutting off all of Mandy's cards. Without money, she'll realize that her luxurious lifestyle is all thanks to family support."
Ayala nodded, "Hattie makes a good point."
Josefina then took out a silver needle and said, "Uncle, extend your arm, please."
Remembering that Ayala was there and might get scared, Josefina suggested, "Uncle, maybe we should go to my lab. Auntie just got pregnant; I don't want her to get stressed."
Evan immediately stood up, "Josie's right. I'll head to your lab now and be back soon."
Hattie and Ayala, having nothing else to offer, nodded in agreement.
...
Josefina and Evan arrived at the lab.
