Oliver was left speechless. Josie had hung up on him before he could say much. That quickly?
After hanging up, Josie grabbed an ice cream to cool down a bit. Just as she was thinking about digging deeper, Oliver's video call came through.
Josie picked up, and Oliver got straight to the point, "Turns out, Shay did save Finley's life."
Josie was surprised. "Seriously?"
"Do you think it might be Shay's plan?" Josie asked, her skepticism clear.
Oliver replied, "We're still piecing things together, but I find it hard to believe Nichola would risk her life for Finley."
Oliver didn't know Nichola well, but he could tell she was self-centered, cold, and ruthless. Risking her life for someone else just didn't seem like her style.
"Josie, if Nichola didn't actually risk herself and it's all a setup, I'll make sure Finley hears the truth. Let him decide what's right or wrong. If he still sides with her, I'm done with him."
Josie chuckled, "Aren't you worried he'll say 'bros before woes'?"
"Let him say what he wants. I can't let him hurt you," Oliver said with determination.
Josie's eyes locked on Oliver's through the screen, seeing his steady resolve warmed her heart.
"Thanks for helping with the investigation, Oliver."
"Josie, no need to be formal. I’ve told you before, what’s mine is yours, even my network of contacts."
Josie could've arranged an investigation herself, but she chose not to.
Respecting Oliver's connections and having her own, Josie didn't want to impose.
"Get some rest, Oliver."
"You too, Josie."
Josie murmured in agreement and hung up once more.
...
When Finley woke up, he looked like he'd been in a brawl.
The guard explained, "She left overnight. Someone came to help her move, and they were out of here by 1 AM."
Finley couldn't wrap his head around it. Why would Livia just up and leave?
"Mind if I borrow your phone to make a call? Thanks."
The guard unlocked his phone and handed it over.
Finley didn't need to search for Livia's number; it was ingrained in his memory. But the call went straight to a 'disconnected' message.
Finley was stunned. Livia had left, and her number was no longer in service.
"Believe me now? Ms. Livia really moved out. Her place is for sale, and she said she's not coming back. If I saw you, she wanted me to tell you to stay out of her life and not to look for her."
Finley stood there, dumbstruck, feeling a mix of emotions.
Was Livia really that desperate to get away from him?
