Josefina made her way home to find her grandparents, Grandpa Robert and Emily, waiting for her in the living room. Normally, they'd be tucked into bed at this hour, but tonight was different. They hadn't called to rush her home; instead, they waited patiently for her return.
Setting down her bag, Josefina walked over and sat beside her grandmother. "Grandpa, Grandma, why are you still up? You weren't waiting for me, were you?"
"Josie, we really were waiting for you," Grandpa Robert admitted, a hint of worry in his voice. "You're amazing with medicine. Could you check on a dear friend of mine? He's really suffering from an illness."
Emily chimed in, "If it's not too much trouble, Josie, maybe you could help him. Even a little relief would be a blessing. But if you can't, that's okay too."
Grandpa Robert handed her a folder. "Here are his medical records. Have a look. If it's beyond help, don't stress over it. We appreciate anything you can do, Josie."
Josefina knew that anyone her grandparents would personally ask about must mean a lot to them. She couldn't ignore the hopeful look in their eyes. "I'll take a look at his records first," she assured them, taking the folder.
Grandpa Robert and Emily watched her intently, waiting for her response. After going through the documents, Josefina said, "I'll go see him as soon as I can."
Their faces lit up with relief. Emily squeezed Josefina's hand, her voice trembling with gratitude, "Thank you, Josie. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you can help, that's wonderful. If not, we still thank you."
"Grandma, Grandpa, don't worry about it. He's your friend, so he's like family to me. I'll do everything I can."
Their spirits lifted, Grandpa Robert and Emily felt a wave of relief wash over them.
