Hattie let out a deep sigh, her worry palpable.
"Annika's been there for Josie more than anyone else. She's cared for her in ways I couldn't. If something happens to Annika, I'm terrified Josie might not recover," Hattie said, tears welling in her eyes.
Garrett tried to reassure her, "Josie's the one performing the surgery. She's not going to let anything happen to Annika."
Dorian nodded, adding his support, "Dad's right. With Josie's skills, she's bound to pull Annika back from the brink."
Silence hung over them as they waited.
Meanwhile, Oliver slipped away to a quiet corner with his phone, his voice icy and determined, "Take him away. Josie will question him herself. Tie him up and don't worry about anything else."
After ending the call, Oliver returned to his vigil outside the surgery room.
Finally, around 1 AM, Josefina emerged, looking utterly drained.
Oliver was there to steady her, offering her a sip of milk.
Everyone stepped back, giving her space, understanding she needed a moment to breathe.
...
Annika's condition was critical even after the surgery. It was unclear if she'd pull through.
Josefina was weighed down by exhaustion and worry.
Mandy wanted to say something but hesitated.
Hattie sat beside Josefina, holding her hand gently, "Josie, Annika's got guardian angels watching over her. She'll be okay."
Josefina's head hung low, "This is all my fault. Annika's in this situation because of me."
