Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess novel Chapter 988

Josefina picked up her fork to take a bite of her salad, and Oliver joined her, casually picking at his own meal.

"Oliver, are you trying to persuade me to keep the baby?" Josefina asked softly.

"Josie, don’t stress over it. The decision is yours and yours alone. If you don’t want to have the baby, no one can make you," Oliver replied, pulling out a napkin to gently wipe the corner of Josefina's mouth.

Just then, Oliver's phone buzzed. He answered, maintaining a calm and composed demeanor. Josefina could hear the voice on the other end as Oliver said, "Sydney’s gone. Suicide."

The news didn’t come as a huge surprise to Josefina.

"Sydney knew too much. The top brass wouldn't have let her live," she remarked.

Oliver continued, "I had our people check everything. The DNA matches. It’s definitely Sydney."

Before turning Sydney over to the authorities, Oliver’s team had interrogated her, but she hadn't spilled a word. Sydney’s legs had been broken, and there was a needle mark in her right arm. Despite everything, she stayed silent. That’s why Oliver finally handed her over to the police. He hoped that media coverage might stir up some leads, maybe someone who knew Sydney would come forward with useful information.

Josefina set down her fork and turned to Oliver. "Can I be part of the autopsy?"

"Sure," Oliver agreed.

He instructed the driver to change course and head to the coroner's office.

...

Upon arrival, Oliver met with the medical examiner. Josefina introduced herself, but a female examiner named Willow seemed skeptical and refused to let her in.

"Just because you say you’re someone doesn’t make it true," Willow snapped with a hint of annoyance.

Oliver’s face darkened, and he shot a glance at Dr. Lee, who gave Willow a pointed look before pulling her aside.

"What are you doing?" Dr. Lee demanded. "Didn't I brief you before we got here? Why aren’t you listening? If you don’t want to be part of this project, you can leave. I’ll find someone else."
