Mom, Don't Cry! Here comes a new Daddy! novel Chapter 125

Chapter 113-1

(Sabrina’s POV)

I’ve changed outfits three times.

The emerald dress Sophia and I picked out is hanging on the back of my bedroom door. I’ve been staring at it for ten minutes, trying to convince myself it’s the right choice.

Mom.Jake appears in the doorway, already dressed in his buttonup shirt and khakis. He looks so grown up it makes my chest hurt. We’re going to be late.

We have fortyfive minutes.”

Yeah, but traffic. And you still need to do your hair. And put on shoes. And you’re standing there staring into space like you saw a ghost and froze up.

He’s not wrong.

I take the dress off the hanger and put it on for the fourth time. It fits the same way it did the other three timesperfectly. But something still feels off.

Not the dress.

Me.

Jake sits on the edge of my bed, swinging his legs. He’s holding a folder with his drawing inside. He’s been working on it for two days straight, redoing it twice because the first version wasn’t good enoughand the second version had a smudge.

What if Granny doesn’t like it?he asks suddenly.

I turn from the mirror. She’ll love it.

You don’t know that.

You’re incredibly talented. Anyone with eyes can see that.

Jake smiles. Yeah. Anyone with eyes can see my mom is amazing. He comes in front of me and takes my hands. And if Granny doesn’t see that, then that’s her loss. But I think she’s

a smart business woman. She isn’t going to take that lose.

I laugh. You. How do you come up with all this stuff?

Because I’m smart, like Granny.

He says this with so much selfconfidence and pride, I can’t help but shake my head in helplessness.

Alright. Let me get ready.I say, grabbing the green dress.

Jake nods once, then leaves with the folder clutched against his chest like armor.

The drive to Ethan’s penthouse takes twentythree minutes. I know because I watch the clock

the entire time.

Jake sits in the backseat, unusually quiet. When I glance at him in the rearview mirror, he’s looking out the window with an expression I can’t quite read.

You okay, baby?

Yeah.

You sure?

I’m practicing.

Practicing what?

My introduction speech. He clears his throat and sits up straighter. Hello, Granny Kate. My name is Jake Moore and I’m very pleased to meet you. I made you a drawing to welcome you home. My mom and I like Mr. Ethan very much, so I hope you’ll be okay with getting a cute new grandson.

It’s so formal and so very Jake that I have to press my lips together to keep from smiling.

That’s a beautiful speech,” I tell him.

You think she’ll like it?

I think she’ll be impressed by your manners.

Great. Ethan said Granny values good manners more than almost anything.

Ethan has been coaching him. I didn’t know that. The thought makes something warm bloom in my chest.

We pull into the parking garage of Ethan’s building. The attendant recognizes me and waves us through to the private elevator that goes straight to the penthouse.

My hands are shaking when I press the button.

Jake notices. He reaches over and takes my hand.
