Chapter 127
(Rosalie’s POV)
The words break something inside me.
“So that’s it? I just give up? Stop trying?
“You stop chasing after the impossible. There’s a difference.” Kate’s voice softens. Just slightly. “I know this hurts. I know you’ve built your entire adult life around waiting for him. But he’s not for you. You two can never be together and you need to accept that.”
“What if I can’t?”
“Then go back to Europe. Take the promotion I’ve been offering you. Build a life that doesn’t revolve around a man who doesn’t love you back.”
I want to argue. Want to tell her she’s wrong. That Ethan could love me if he just saw me differently. If Sabrina wasn’t in the picture.
But the look on Kate’s face tells me she’s done with this conversation.
“I’ll think about it,” I say.
“Don’t think too long. The wedding is in a week. You need to decide before then.”
I leave Kate’s suite with my mind racing.
Back in my room; I pull out my laptop again. But this time I’m not watching videos.
I’m researching.
If Kate won’t help me anymore, I’ll do this myself.
I find articles about the Sterling & Co. scandal. About Jessica Morgan firing Sabrina. About the custody
battle with Dustin.
I dig deeper. Find the police reports from Jake’s kidnapping. The incident with Freya. The park stabbing.
It’s all public record. All documented.
And it’s damning.
Not because Sabrina did anything wrong. But because chaos follows her. Drama. Complications.
Exactly what Kate said she was worried about.
I create a dossier. Professional. Thorough. Just facts and dates and public records.
But arranged in a way that tells a story.
A story about a woman who brings trouble wherever she goes. Who was fired from her job after an affair scandal. Whose child was kidnapped by people she antagonized. Whose life is one crisis after another.

Chapter 122
Is this the stability Hale Global’s CEO needs?
type the question at the bottom of the document.
Then I create an anonymous sss account: Compose a message to the Hale Global board of directors.
Concerned about recent developments. Please review the attached information regarding Ethan Hale’s fiancée. Given his position as CEO and face of the company, these complications warrant discussion.
My finger hovers over the send button.
Kate’s warning echoes in my head.
If you sabotage this relationship, you’ll be the one who leaves.
I could lose everything. The family. The company. Kate’s approval.
All for a man who doesn’t love me back.
But if I don’t do this-if I let him marry her-I’ll lose him for sure.
At least this way, I tried.
At least this way, I fought.
I press send before I can change my mind.
The sss whooshes away. Delivered to twelve board members who will see it first thing Monday morning.
Then I create another document. This one about Jake,
Not malicious. Just observational.
Six-year-old child with significant social media presence. Over one million followers. Posts regularly about family life, including details about Ethan Hale. Potential security risk? Potential PR complications?
I add screenshots of Jake’s most popular posts. The ones where he talks about finding his mom a “new dad.” The ones where he calls Ethan “Mr. Shiny Shoe Protector”
It’s cute when a child does it.
It’s concerning when that child is about to become the stepson of a billionaire CEO.
I send this document to a different set of people. Security consultants. PR advisors. People whose job is to identify risks.
They’ll flag it. Bring it to Ethan’s attention. Make him wonder if marrying Sabrina means exposing Jake to dangers he hasn’t considered.
Not because I’m trying to hurt Jake. But because I am genuinely concerned.
The Hale name isn’t all sunshine and glory.
And a child with a million followers talking about where he lives, who he’s with, what his family does? That’s a kidnapping waiting to happen.

Chapter
Better Ethan realizes it now. Before the wedding. Before it’s too late.
My phone buzzes.
A text from Sabrina
Hey! I know things have been tense with your grandmother. But I was hoping you could still help with the wedding planning? It would mean a lot to have you there.
The wedding planning.
Right.
Ethan’s assistant mentioned it yesterday. Small gathering. Close friends and family to help speed up the wedding preparations.
I stare at the text for a long moment.
Kate told me to stop sabotaging. To be supportive or step back. But how is it possible for me to give up? I’ve waited Ethan for seventeen years.
I’ve loved him for even longer.
How can I just give up?
Besides, Sabrina is asking me to help with the wedding planning. To be involved. To play the role of excited future sister-in-law.
I can do that.
I can smile and help pick decorations and toast to their happiness.
While behind the scenes, I can do what needs to be done to call this wedding off.
As long as Kate can’t trace it back to me, she can’t send me away. Not without evidence.
Of course! I’d love to help. When should we meet?
Her response is immediate.
Tomorrow? Lunch? I really want us to be friends, Rosalie.
Friends.
She actually wants to be friends with me.
The woman who’s marrying the man I love wants us to be friends.
The irony is almost funny.
Tomorrow sounds perfect. I know a great place.
We make plans. Exchange more pleasantries. She’s so grateful. So relieved that I’m being supportive.
She has no idea what’s coming her way.

Kate thinks she warned me off.
