Sophia squeezes my hand. “See? You’ve got an entire army here. Richard, me, Ethan. We’re all rooting for you.

I don’t reply to that. Because the truth is, I don’t know if it will be. I don’t know if being a good mother or having a large supporting team is enough when Dustin has money and Jessica’s father’s influence and a team of lawyers who specialize in making people like me look incompetent.

More footsteps. Heavier this time.

I look up, and my stomach drops.

Dustin.

He’s wearing his best suit-the navy one I helped him pick out three years ago for a major client presentation. Jessica walks beside him in a blood-red dress, I’m starting to notice now, she’s always wearing red, that probably costs more than my entire wardrobe, her heels clicking against the tile like gunshots.

Dustin’s eyes sweep the hallway, cataloging who’s here. They land on Richard first, then Sophia,

then me.

And then Ethan.

My stomach dips.

The change in his expression is immediate. His jaw clenches. His hands curl into fists. And something ugly flashes across his face-rage mixed with something I can’t quite name.

Jealousy?

No. That can’t be right. Dustin chose Jessica. He filed for divorce. He doesn’t get to be jealous. But the way he’s staring at Ethan, eyes practically spitting fire, tells me things aren’t looking good.

Shit!

I really shouldn’t have allowed him to stay. Even if it had left Jake disappointed, I should’ve sent Ethan away. Now only God knows what Dustin will do.

“That’s him?” Dustin’s voice carries down the hallway. “The man from the videos?”

Jessica’s hand touches his arm, a warning. But he shakes her off, taking a step toward us.

Richard stands immediately, placing himself between me and Dustin. “Mr. Reed. I suggest you keep your distance.”

“I’m not talking to you.” Dustin’s eyes are still fixed on Ethan. “I’m talking to the man who’s been sleeping with my wife.”

“Ex-wife,” I correct, my voice stronger than I feel. “And unlike you, I don’t just sleep with any willing

slut.”

“What did you say?”

I turn to Jessica, the disdain clear in my eyes. “You heard me. Unlike Dustin here, I don’t just sleep with any willing slut.”

Jessica makes a lunge at me, but Dustin grabs her arm, pulling her back before she can touch me.

“Babe, calm down. Don’t forget we’re in a court now. If anyone sees…”

He doesn’t need to finish the rest for her, as Jessica’s smart enough to catch the hint. Not only are there police around, there are also a few famous media houses present to cover the custody case of Sterling and Co. ‘s Marketing Director and his ex-wife, the former Creative Director.

The company’s image is already tarnished because of this case.

If a picture of Jessica attacking me leaks out, it will only make things worse for them.

Seeing her calm down, Dustin returns his attention to. “Sabrina, it’s none of my business who you spend time with. However, I won’t stand for it when you introduce strangers to our son as his new dad, parading your relationships all over social media-”

“I didn’t parade anything. Jake posted those videos without my knowledge or consent.” I stand, facing him.

“If you hadn’t exposed him to such content, how could he have recorded it?” Dustin’s laugh is harsh. “Jumping from man to man, living in hotels, dragging Jake through your mess of a life, and you say you’re a good mom?”

“I’m not dragging Jake through anything. I’m protecting him from you and your mistress.”

Jessica’s expression hardens at the word. “Watch your mouth-”

“Or what? You’ll fire me again?” I step closer, done with being intimidated. “Oh wait. You can’t. Because I already quit. And soon I’ll have full custody of my son.”

“You think so?” Dustin’s smile is cruel. “Wait until the judge hears what kind of mother you really

are.”

The courtroom doors open. A bailiff steps out, clipboard in hand.

“Family Court, case number 2024-FC-1847, Reed versus Moore. All parties please enter.”

Richard touches my elbow. “Remember what we talked about. Stay calm. Tell the truth. Don’t let

him provoke you.”
