Chapter 86-1
(Ethan’s POV)

This man…he really does think I’m still the same child he bossed around, doesn’t he?
What makes him think he can order me to marry a woman who dumped me six years ago? 3he obviously isn’t interested in me. The only reason why she’s back now, claiming a bastard child that isn’t even my daughter, is probably because she saw my face on the front page of a business magazine.
But it’s too late for her to regret her loss.
She dumped when she thought I was nothing more than a poor guy with not even a penny te his name. And now that she wants to get back with me, I’m no longer interested in her.
I have a girlfriend a hundred times more beautiful than her inside and out. And as a bonus, even a cute five year old son.
What is her daughter even worth compared to my genius son?
“That child is not my daughter.”
“Are you certain?”
“Completely certain. The test results will prove it. And when they do, Giselle is going to face harassment charges for pulling this stunt.”
My father studies me for a moment. “And what about/Sabrina Moore? She has a child from another man.
Women like her-they’re complicated. Messy. Not suitable for someone in your position.”
“Women like her,” I repeat slowly, “If a strong, resilient, and down to earth woman like her isn’t suitable for me, then who is? The vapid socialites you keep trying to set me up with?”
“Those women come from good families-”
“I don’t care what families they come from. I’m not interested. And if you can’t accept that” I stand up,
r then we don’t have anything else to discuss.”
“Ethan-”
“If this whole Giselle business is over, I’m going public with Sabrina. And just so you know, I plan to propose next week. Be ready to welcome your future daughter-in-law and grandson with open arms.” I head for the door. “Because you have no other choice.”
I walk out before he can respond, my resolve firm.
Sabrina Moore will be my only Mrs. Hale if it’s the last thing I do.
(Jessica’s POV)
I can’t believe they failed.

All that money, all that planning went down the drain.
Ethan Hale yot to play hero and rescue Sabrina before those idiots could even get a single compromising photo.
Now I’m sitting in a jail cell that smells like piss and disinfectant, staring at concrete walls while my entire life implodes around me.
My father won’t take my calls. Sterling & Co. sent me a dismissal notice via sss-an sss, like I’m some nobody instead of the creative director backed by a shareholder of the company. And Dustin…
Dustin looked at me like I was a monster when the police dragged me away.
Like he suddenly developed a conscience. The hypocrite forgot he’s the one who started all of this by cheating on his wife in the first place.
I glance across the cell at Freya, who’s curled in the corner like a wounded animal, her eyes burning with hatred so intense I can feel it from here.
She hates me. Blames me for dragging her into this mess.
Which is rich, considering she’s the one who came up with the kidnapping idea in the first place.
Sure, I made the calls. Hired the men. Set everything in motion.
But Freya planted the seed. Freya said we needed to do something “permanent” to get Sabrina out of Ethan’s life.
Now she wants to act like the victim? Like I forced her into this?
Oh, please.
Spare me the act.
I’m not some brainless idiot who’s about to fall for her gaslighting.
Besides, I covered the bases with her right from the start.
If the plan fails, she takes the fall. So what right does she have to feel resentful?
“This is all your fault,” she hisses from her corner. “If you’d hired competent people instead of bottom-barrel thugs, we wouldn’t be here.”
I laugh coldly. “My fault? You’re the one who said low-lifes from the bottom of the gutter are easier to control. And without powerful connections to back them up, we can get rid of them once they get the job done to erase any evidence of our involvement.”

“But you coordinated everything! You promised there would be nothing to lead back to us!”
“I did my best. How was I supposed to know those bastards had their cameras and phones connected?” I lean back against the cold wall. “Poor little Freya, eight years of devotion and the CEO doesn’t even notice you exist. I was doing you a favor by helping you. And now, ita in this mess because of you.”
Her face goes red. “A favor? You ruined my life!”
“No. Sabrina Moore ruined your life. Same as she ruined mine.” I pick at my cuticles, refusing to look at her. “We should have made sure Ethan was in meetings all day before we acted. Better yet, those bastards should’ve done her before Ethan rescued her. That would’ve solved all our problems.”
“We should have never done it at all.”
“Oh, spare me the moral outrage. You wanted this as much as I did. You wanted Sabrina gone, and Ethan all to yourself. Don’t act like you’re better than me just because you’re having regrets now that we got caught.”
Freya doesn’t respond. Just curls tighter into her corner, her arms wrapped around her knees.
The silence stretches.
And in that silence, I let myself think about what I’ve been avoiding since the police slapped handcuffs on my wrists.
Sabrina Moore.
God, I hate her with a vengeance that frightens even me.
I’ve hated people before. Competitors. Colleagues who got promotions I deserved. Ex-friends who
betrayed me.
But I’ve never hated anyone the way I hate Sabrina.
Because she has everything I want. Everything that was supposed to be mine.
Dustin’s heart. His child. Seven years of memories and history I threw away the second I dumped him and
boarded that flight to New York.
I thought I was the great love of his life. That when I came back to the city, we’d pick up where we left off.
But he ended up marrying another woman.
And when I carne back, despite managing to get Sabrina out of his life, despite getting him back all to myself again…nothing is the way I imagined.
