Chapter 59-1

Raven’s POV

“Raven, we need to get out of here.” Mazie says as she grabs firmly ahold of my hand before taking off in a

sprint, towards the way that we had come.

My heart raced in my chest, as I ran as fast as I could, trying to keep up with her pace, not daring to look

over my shoulder, even though I could hear its paws heavily hitting the ground directly behind us.

But even running as fast as my legs could carry me, I could hear the beast making ground on us, and I knew there was no way that we were both going to make it out of here alive. I had cheated death once already, but today, I knew there was no way I was going to cheat it again. This rogue wolf was clearly after me. For what reason, I still had no clue, but there was no way in hell was going to let Mazie die because

of me.

Pulling my hand from hers, I screamed out, “Run”, as I came to a halt, ready to turn around and face my fears, diverting all its attention to me.

“Raven, no!” Mazie called out to me, as she came to a halt herself, turning around, staring at me with

widening eyes, as fear like no other was present in them.

“Go!” I yelled out to her with authority in my tone, wanting her to save herself, as I swallowed hard and slowly turned to face the beast.

My hands trembled, and my heart now felt like it was going to explode, but I knew that I couldn’t allow us both to die. Mazie had a family and people that loved her, where I was all alone in this world, and my death was meaningless compared to hers. I would/never be able to forgive myself if I survived, and she wouldn’t, as I already heavily felt the guilt of doing so with my parents.

But as I turned to face the beast, I was second guessing my choice to sacrifice myself, as it charged at me with its red glowing eyes and canines bared, while saliva dripped from the corners of its mouth, hungry for a taste of my flesh.

My body braced itself for impact, as the beast drove at me like a raging bull, before it leaped into the air, with its claws fully extended, heading straight towards me. I felt its claws piercing painfully through my flesh, before I actually felt the full impact of its body colliding with my own, taking me straight to the ground, where I landed with a hard thud.

My whole body ached in pain from the impact, but my arm burned like a son of a bitch, where its claws had penetrated my flesh. My hand instantaneously moved to the wound on my arm, as warm liquid coated my hand, making me turn my head to see blood flowing freely from the deep wound its claws had caused. Instantly, I became woozy from the sight, but I closed my eyes for a second, telling myself that I had to

pull myself together, and that now wasn’t the time to pass out.

Slowly, I sat up, trying to get my bearings, while pain shot throughout my body from the simple act. I was sure that the impact had fractured my ribs, as pain now radiated from my chest cavity, but I didn’t have

time to think about that pain, as the wolf was now circling me like I was its prey.

With immense labor, I got to my feet, bearing back the pain, as I stared the wolf down, realizing this wasn’t the same wolf that had tried to attack me before. This wolf’s coat was a few shades off from black, more like a deep chocolate, but its eyes, like the other wolf, glowed like fire, making me fear that there was a pack of these rogue wolves taking over Beaumont.

The wolf snarled at me, as it snapped its jaws, making me take a step back straight into a headstone. I peered slightly over my shoulder to see that Maxie had got away, and I felt a sense of relief knowing that she was going to be okay. But as for myself, I had to wonder if this was the end, as the wolf now let out a

horrific growl, drawing my attention back to it.
