As I stared at the woff, I decided at that moment that I wasn’t going to go down without a fight. For all I
knew, this could very well be the rogue wolf that had killed Josie, and if so, I was going to put the fight of
my life up against him, hoping that I could injure him just enough to make it easier for the game warden to
catch him before he could hurt someone else.
Spotting a large rock at my feet, I slowly reached down, picking it up in my hand, as I tried not to make too
much of a sudden movement. As I slowly stood back to my full height, I stared the beast straight in the
eyes, while I said to it, “If you think I am going down without a fight, you are dead wrong.”
The wolf let out another growl, almost shaking the earth beneath my feet, making my hands tremble as I
held tightly onto the rock, knowing damn straight I was no match for this beast. I thought about trying to make a run for it, now that I had stalled it long enough for Mazie to get away, but I also knew that there
was no way that I could outrun it.
The rogue wolf began to pace, as it kept its fiery red eyes on me, like it was contemplating its next move,
making me wonder why it hadn’t gone for the kill yet. My idea of making a run for it sounded better with
the seconds that passed by, as it continued to stall. My mind was now considering another option to
survive as I knew that Mazie would go for help, and if I could stall the beast long enough, then there was a
chance that help would be here soon to save me.
Slowly, I edged my way around the other side of the headstone behind me, placing the thick stone
between us, as a small barrier compared to its size. But as I made my way around the headstone, the
rogue wolf stopped its pacing, as if it knew what I was about to do.
Looking behind me, I could see a larger group of headstones, and I knew if I could make it to them, then I
could place an even bigger barrier between us. Turning back to the beast, I knew it was now or never.
Not giving the beast an opportunity to realize what I was up to, I took off towards the large group of
headstones, running as fast as my legs could carry me, as my chest burned in pain, slowing my efforts.
But by the grace of God, I reached the group of headstones just in the nick of time, placing them between
the beast and me, as I turned to face it once again.

By the sound of the snarls now coming from its mouth, it was clear that it wasn’t happy with my attempt to
advert it, especially as it swung one of its paws directly at me, hitting the headstone I had placed between us instead. My eyes widened as I took a step back as pieces of the headstone flew in the air, crushed by
the force of the impact of its claws, as I realized the strength of this beast.
The rock that I still held in my hand seemed so minute now, making me realize that I had no chance in hell
trying to fight it off, even if I had two good arms. I knew that there was now only one way I was going to survive, and that was to make a run for it, praying that help would come soon. But first I needed to hit the beast with all I had, even though I knew that it would only stump the beast for a second, but that second
of time between me and the beast might be enough to save my ass.
Gripping the rock tightly in my hand, I brought my arm up and swung my arm with all my might, aiming

between the beast’s eyes. The rock shattered on impact, and the beast stumbled backwards, giving me
that second that I needed to make a run for it.
With only a split second of hesitation, took off, running towards the front of the cemetery, praying to God that I had bought myself enough time. But as I ran at full force, I could hear the beast now in hot pursuit of me, and with each second that passed by, it closed the distance I had made between us.
Foolishly, I looked back over my shoulder, and as I did, Nost my footing, just as the beast leaped towards
to the ground, as I let out a whimper from the pain of its weight on me.
Hot saliva poured from the corners of its mouth, as the potent smell of rotten eggs seeped from it, making my nose scrunch, while I tried to turn my head away from it staring directly down at me. Tears endlessly began to slip from the corners of my eyes, while I realized this was the way I was going to die, as its hot
breath felt like it was scolding my neck.
As a growl radiated from its snarled lips, I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the inevitable. But as I laid beneath the weight of the beast motionlessly, waiting for death to come for me, it never came. Instead,
the ground beneath me began to rumble, as if a herd of elephants was stampeding in our direction.
