Chapter 61-1
Raven’s POV

Honestly, I don’t know if it was the fact that I was in Chance’s arms, instantly being able to feel the safety
his embrace brought me, or if it was from the loss of so much blood, but whichever it was, my mind and
body just shut down. But as my mind slowly began to reboot itself, everything that happened in the
cemetery came rushing back to me like a tsunami, flooding me with images of what transpired.
My eyes flew open, and I sat up abruptly, instantly realizing that it was a bad idea, as pain automatically
shot through my chest from the aftermath of the attack. Reaching for my ribs, I could feel the bandage that was wrapped tightly around my ribcage through a familiar black tee-shirt, making me realize whose
bedroom I must be in.
Slowly, my eyes began to scan his room, taking in his unusual décor for a male my age. His room was
dark, painted in the shade of a midnight blue, with tiny little specks that glistened like stars in the moonlight that shimmered through his windows. The windows were lined with black satin curtains that
matched the bedding of his king-sized bed, but it wasn’t his choice of colors that was throwing me off, but
the massive study that lay in the corner of his room.
The walls were lined in that corner with bookshelves that reached the ceiling, displaying hundreds of old
hardback books. Never would I have taken Chance to be a reader, especially one of a caliber like this, but I
guess this proves to never judge a book by its cover.
A massive desk also sat in that same corner, taking up a huge space, now making me wonder if this was
where he spent most of his time working on business deals for his family’s business.
Voices from outside now carried with the night breeze through the open windows, stirring my curiosity
about who they were coming from. A female’s voice now carried into the room from outside, instantly making me think of Mazie, as I prayed that she too had survived the attack.
Removing the blanket from the lower half of my body, I gently swung my legs over the side of the bed,
before I gingerly stood up from it. Instantly, I realized that my ribs weren’t the only thing that still pained
me, as my arm began to throb, from using it to help push me up from the bed. Looking down at my arm, I
noticed that it too was wrapped tightly with a white bandage, but thankfully the bleeding had long
stopped.
Slowly, I made my way to one of the windows, as the voices outside continued to carry into the room, but
just as I reached the window to peek outside, the door to the bedroom opened abruptly. I almost jumped
out of my skin, as I was sure I was still on edge from the attack.
My hand moved to my chest, as my heart began to race from the sudden surprise, but it quickly began to
slow down when Chance’s grandmother’s angelic voice carried into the room, saying, “Raven, you
shouldn’t be out of bed.”
Moving to the nightstand beside the bed, she turned on a lamp, illuminating the room with a soft warm

glow, before she moved to my side, taking me by my good arm, guiding me back to the bed, as she says, The doctor said you need your rest.”
I allowed her to help me back into the bed, but as I laid back down, I asked her, “Is Mazie, okay? And does my grandmother know Tam here?”
“Mazie is fine, dear, and as for your grandmother, I personally called and explained everything to her, while I assured her that the doctor said that you would be okay.” She said reinsuring me, as she placed the blanket back over my bottom half, before she looked at the bandage on my arm. “It looks as if the bleeding has finally stopped. You are very lucky to have survived a rogue wolf attack. Not too many have lived to tell the tale. You must be strong just like your mother was.”
