Chapter 62-1
Chance’s POV

“How are you feeling?” I asked Raven as I moved inside my bedroom, taking a seat on the edge of my bed, as my grandmother quickly left the room to give us some privacy.
Trying to sit up, Raven winced in pain, as I moved to help her by putting another pillow behind her head, while she said to me, “I am a bit sore, but it’s better than the alternative.”
I had to look away from her, as the thought of losing her pained me, but most of all, I was still pissed off at myself for not keeping her safe. Hell, to be honest, I am mad at the world right now, and the run I had just taken to blow off some steam didn’t do jack shit for me.
Plus, I was worried more now than ever that Raven was going to leave here, the first chance she got. This was now the third time that she had been attacked since she had come here, and the first time that one of us wasn’t there to save her, which leads me to still wonder why the hell she and Mazie were at the cemetery in the first place.
Looking up at Raven, I tried my best to keep my cool, because I needed to know the truth about why she was there, as it was clear that I wasn’t going to get the truth from Mazie. She had clearly gone off the deep end, with her crazy ass theories that Raven was one of us, clearly trying to avert herself by taking responsibility for almost getting Raven killed. If I found out that Mazie had something to do with Raven being there, she was for sure going to face the consequences of having her do so.
“Raven, I need to know why you were in the cemetery. Did Mazie ask you to meet her there?”
Guilt instantly struck Raven’s face, as she looked away from me, not making it clear whether she was trying to protect her friend by avoiding the question, or if she was trying to avoid it because she herself
had lied to me and Cash about where she was going.
Seeing that she wasn’t going to answer the question without a little push, I then said, “I can’t believe that Mazie put your life in danger like that. I have never been so disappointed in her as I am now. She could have gotten you killed.”
୮
Raven immediately turned her head back to look at me, and by the look in her eyes, I had pushed her
enough to talk. “This isn’t Mazie’s fault. She didn’t ask me to meet her there.”
“So, then you lied to me and Cash about where you were going.” I said now, even more disappointed that it
was Raven that had lied to us, as I moved to stand from the bed, taking a deep breath, trying to calm myself, as I wondered why on earth she would lie to us, and go to my people’s cemetery.
“Chance, I am sorry for lying to you and Cash, but I didn’t want the two of you to think that I was crazy.”
“Crazy? Why would I think you are crazy?” I asked her as I turned back to look at her, wondering if she was
somehow piecing together what we were, and that was why she was there.
Raven now hesitated, telling me that she was scared to tell me what was going on in that mind of hers,

and once again, I felt like she needed a little push. “Raven, nothing you could say would make me think that you are crazy. Trust me.”
“Fine then. Over twenty years ago, my mother left here. She told me that she did it to better her life, but my grandmother tells me something different.”
“What did your grandmother tell you?” asked her now, interested in hearing what Ms. Wilson had to say about why Raven’s mother had left.
“I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think my mother was also attacked by one of these rogue wolves. But I don’t think it was just my mother, as there were a series of deaths that no one in this town will speak of, including your uncle’s. My grandmother said that my mother left town shortly after your uncle passed away, leading me to believe that my grandmother was right about why my mother left.”
